Idaho 1860s to 1870s - Native ABigfoot Leads Indians Against Settlers

NOTE: This article refers to a Native American warrior (or thief depending on the writer) Ouluck, aka Bigfoot.  He is not the same individual as Lakota chief Si Tanka, also known as Bigfoot and the namesake for several locations in the western United States.

 

Author Ron Marlow wrote several historical articles for the Independent Enterprise (newspaper) of Payette, Idaho.  Those interested in the history of this area can find these stories at https://payettecounty.info/marlow/intro.html.  Mr. Marlow's article on Bigfoot names him as Starr Wilkinson, a quarter-blood Cherokee who stood about 6' 9" tall, and weighed about 275 pounds.  

 

This article was published in The Times-News of Twin Falls (ID) on April 14, 1910.  The attached paper by the Idaho State Historical Society claims that Ouluck stood 7' tall.
