Bigtex
Haven't been through 'The Funnel' in a while, and it has grown very thick under the bridge, and a few photos before and now. I have found some of my very best prints under this bridge, and a nice fresh water-filled print found yesterday.
Guest gershake
Loving the 35mm idea! For one, the resolution is ace, and the negatives can be proven not to have been digitally tampered with. For another, if the sas detects the cam after having its picture taken and it tries to destroy it, it might not know to destroy the film. Even if the camera gets destructed, the film may survive if you can retrieve it!
Bigtex
Yes Gershake.......I like your thinking, my thoughts too, and from a cost stand point as well. I buy a particular camera on Ebay, they are always 15-20 bucks, add another $30 for wiring, so no great loss on these, and could hopefully re-use some of the other smashed pieces:) Also, there are two cameras in different locations per 'fire', so the other should go unscathed........hopefully. Now that my camera system works better, been thinking about different applications, here are three.......can you guys think of some more? Plan A : Use 2 or 3 of these near my camp site, set up in natural approach's from different directions, and near areas that would offer a safe observation of my camp. I would try to peak their curiosity in some way to draw them in. If I see a flash, gulp, then retrieve the cameras immediately. Would definitely start the tripod video aimed in that direction first, to record any BF-UFC Smack-down! Plan B : To hopefully be contacted by someone with an ongoing 'peek-a-boo' BF that hangs around someones property, looks in windows, and set a few of these up there. Plan C : Set up in or near entrance to a Cave. Edited November 18, 2013 by Bigtex
Bigtex
Nice to have some cold weather, always a welcomed relief. A couple of photos : Fresh print, my foot is facing opposite direction, and notice broken grass blades. High limb break at about 10 feet......these look different from a normal break, notice the wider area that is crushed & twisted. And finally, a very cool old Juniper, and looks like a huge spider on its back. Hoping everyone has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!!
the parkie
The cactus needs to be picked and presented on Valentine's Day!
Bigtex
Good idea on the Cactus Parkie! It's been cold out there of late, for this Texas boy anyway, but made it out Sunday. Blazed a new trail and found two illegal camps, plus an old dogs choke collar with a broken section of rope attached.
Bigtex
We've been getting some nice rain, and the ground has been perfect for finding prints. Was out yesterday, blazing a few new trails, and found an interesting track way that I followed for a spell. There seemed to be 3 individuals, one larger (female?), medium (teenager?), and small (baby?). I found more of the medium prints, only a few large, and two small. It appeared the 3 were traveling together, with the 'baby' being carried, and appeared to be put down twice on the ground during the track way portion I followed, as they were foraging around for something on the ground. Of course, could always be human, but the area was remote, hard to get to, and of course cold.......it would be crazy for humans to be running around with bare feet, especially the baby. I just love finding Babyfoot prints! Has anyone else found many of the juvie & baby prints? Also, the juvie print I have probably seen before, and if indeed the same one......been watching his foot grow from a Babyfoot print I found 8 years ago:)
mesabe
Hi bigtex, here's links to photobucket files of track photos I was finally able to get. I did get a cast of the juv/baby track. It turned out perfect. http://s852.photobucket.com/user/dust_hat/library/traxx http://s852.photobucket.com/user/dust_hat/library/Juvtrack you may need to cut & paste to get them to work I have found different tracks on about 7 occasions, this is the first juv/baby track. In testing my links, I guess you can just click on the individual albums Edited December 16, 2013 by mesabe
Bigtex
Wow......cool Mesabe! Nice dirt too for great track details.......the one I found was in Juniper needles, better detail in the flesh, and was probably made less than 24 hours before I came along. It was near a creek with good flow.
Bigtex
My good buddy Chester Moore was in town yesterday, and we did some hiking. Was over in the area where I found the track way the week before, and found another Babyfoot print. It had rained since the print was made, but still had decent outline. JanV
Hi Bigtex! Happy New Year! I am hoping you get some great pics on the 35mm camera trap this year. Are the pups well and enjoying the great outdoors with you? Keep us posted. Jan
Bigtex
You too JanV........and everyone else too! Took my first hike for 2014 yesterday, and found something a bit strange, and since I don't hunt, maybe some hunters could shed some light. Was hiking in a remote area, and found a fresh Deer Skin. I could see tufts of hair nearby in several places, disturbed ground, and must have been where it was killed. It just seemed odd to find such a thing, and the rest of the animal wasn't in the area, as my wolfy would have surely found a snack. Would a hunter skin a Deer and take the rest of it away, guts and all?
bighunter43
Hunters often do things differently. Could have easily been shot and skinned, quartered and packed out. The "guts" will be gone in about an hour....shot a nice buck Christmas Eve, gutted it and took it up to camp house and quartered it. I came back an hour later to the kill site and "nothing" was left...period. It being deer season, most likely killed by a hunter. BigTex, have you read "Texas Bigfoot in my backyard" by Susan Sullivan (I doubt that's her real name as she wants to keep her identity and location a secret)? Short but interesting book that takes place probably within an hour east of Austin. Keep up the good work!
Bigtex
Thanks Bighunter43.....makes sense, and I should have added that if human killed, would have been poached, as the area is off limits to hunting, even during season. also thanks for the book tip, hope they have it at Amazon! bighunter43
If you have a kindle it's about 9.99! It's only about 80 pages but worth it. She won't reveal the exact location, but I've pretty much got the location pegged!
