Guest
We went into last year thinking they were nocturnal but now think they're diurnal. Honestly, we don't know when the damned things sleep. There's activity at all hours. Note that there's also a moon phase element. They're bolder when moonlight isn't a factor. We think they can see very, very well in the dark. In any event, they appear to be flexible enough to operate whenever they want. This question is related to their total number. It's not possible for an animal to be present 24/7. It has to sleep and eat. So are we seeing multiple "shifts" where different animals are around at different times of the day? No idea. Just judging by own situation, assuming it has anything at all to do with a saquatch, it is also weather dependent, cloud cover at night lends itself to activity here. It goes in cycles of about 21-28 days in certain seasons which doesn't always jive with the phases of the moon, which is about 29 days. The other common denominator I noticed was storm activity, lots of movement ahead of a big/huge fronts, not so much with isolated thunderstorm activity. We've had two hurricanes that affected areas north of us and I noticed increased activity just after or before the indirect impact from those storms ( rain/wind). However, I imagine that would apply to other animals too so misidentification is a real possibility for my area. Just think of how birds and squirrels act when the first big snow is about to hit, a frenzy of feeding and noise before the ground gets covered. If the Foot exist, I wonder if they are sensitive to changes in the barometric pressure or if they can hear the infrasound produced by the huge storms. I haven't noticed increased reports in the coastal areas that are frequently hit by hurricanes or in the northern areas hit by huge snow storms. It is so difficult to pinpoint any kind of pattern without paying extreme attention to details, and even then, it doesn't always hold true. Guest
I'd rather wait for a response than jump the gun. Bipto may not want some of that information posted here. This is what the group member reported seeing on their website. I'm curious if the police got the same story. he witnessed a large, brown, upright, hair-covered figure walking in front of him at a distance of roughly 25-30 yards. Colyer noted it had long hair on its shoulders and the back of its head, which was distinctly conical in shape. He saw it from the left side and slightly to the back; its front was not visible to him at any point.... Walking to the south, the creature was momentarily obscured by vegetation and was then visible through an eight to ten foot opening in the dense foliage, still approximately 25-30 yards from Colyer’s position. Using his Remington 1100 Tac-4 12 gauge auto-loading shotgun, loaded with 000 buckshot followed by slugs, he attempted to collect the animal for scientific analysis, firing all the rounds in rapid succession. Guest
Are you a skeptic? I'm a human. Thanks Irish and DWA. I just like to call 'em like I see 'em. And this is how nasty rumors start...Hmmm...not quite as sensational as "Trigger happy gun nut and TBRC member takes wild potshots at shadows and ends up shooting innocent victims truck. TBRC must be held accountable for endangering property, life and limb. News at 10." If you feel like the TBRC was acting in a dangerous or non reponsible manor you can always report it to the local sherrif, or here. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f13909.pdf I'm seeking the police report (or reports) to clarify what was reported, and what has been posted. Guest DWA
Request, posture, and demand to your heart's content. Really. I'd be content that facts of the case are known and, in cases like this, what should be done usually gets done. Painthorse
The number of sightings dictates that there must be a viable population of the animals, so either they aren't moving, or they just don't get hit by cars/trucks. If they are not moving, then their rate of expansion would be very low. I can't imagine that they CAN'T get hit by cars, eventually an old one, or a young one, or one that had one too many over-ripe thimbleberries would have stumbled into a roadway at the wrong time. Have you ever been here in the Ouachita's? It's extremely vast. Google earth the Talimema Trail from Mena Arkansas to Talihina Oklahoma, it will give you a good idea of the vastness. *Another snippet is that these creatures do not have to "walk over a road to cross it". There are many, many bridges over the "numerous" creeks where anything can walk under. I know this for a fact, I live and research here in the Ouachita's. All one has to do is drive the Talimena Scenic Drive to get a hint of how wild that country is. By comparison, the classic mountain roads of the East (Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, etc.) are almost like driving through Long Island. You don't drive the Southern terminus of the Blue Ridge Parkway or Skyline Drive either one do you? Gross exaggeration. Perhaps in a relative sense you've got isolation on TSD but don't make Parkway land sound like the Autobahn surrounded by a concrete jungle. I would lay a bet I have driven those roads more than anyone else here. I may have walked more of Shenandoah National Park than any living person. All the trails, most three times or more, only begins to touch it. Toss a dart at a map of SNP. It will hit a spot I have been. Wanna bet? My assessment is my assessment. Yours comes from...? Guest Nalajr
I tell ya if I had a group that went out and did have some extraordinary encounter I don't think I'd mention a word of it on here. When you have nattering nabobs that demand you answer every question they have and then that's not good enough and they demand POLICE REPORTS just to "verify" the claims that are made are what's actually taking place or wanting to ensure that the proper actions ere taken, what's the upside of telling about your project? I can't see one. I agree with what was mentioned earlier, they aren't wanting questions answered they are fishing around for details about who the owner of Area x is or where exactly it is so they can go and nose around the area. Oh well, with friends like these...... Nalajr
