I will say I have nothing but repect for the military. I will also say I know some real scum bags who chose the military as a profession. Being in the military doesn't mean you're a great person. Heck, watch Top Shot and see how much of a jerk that supposed ex-Navy SEAL was. No respect for that guy.

A member of this forum Matt Pruitt stated there was more to this incident and alluded to the improbability that it occurred as originally documented. Other than the September 2010 update I'm not aware if he has any further corroboration to the report as a hoax or not. He would have to comment on that.

Do we really think this didn't happen because one witness claimed it never happened?

What was his motivation to deny this incident? Was it a cover up? Can we find the others to ask?

I can't believe an Army Ranger made up this story/

I have never served in or with the US army but surely it's not too much to expect a group of soldiers on a night mission to all have some form of ability to see ie: all have torches?

The blind firing into the dark is also a huge no no, not only do you run the risk of hitting someone on your "side" if you cant see them they sure as heck can see your muzzle flashes.

I have a hard time believing any sqaud not still in basic training would make such mistakes and even if they were in basic i'm sure they would be in for one heck of a chewing out.

If you dont think a ranger could be pulling your leg, go to a pub with a bunch of off duty guys and listen to the tall tales come pouring out. (and I don't mean that in a bad way, but sometimes fishermen have nothing on the one that got away stories I have heard at the pub after knock off.)
