Guest
Safety is a priority and eight eyes are better than four.....but this template can be adjusted. We are playing with the idea of portable cb's for the teams with a base station for TOC I hope you have the range you're looking for. Especially in the hills in that thick stuff. Even in the desert, my portable CB's would rarely trans/receive over a mile or two. I have some older family service radios that would routinely range 5-6 miles. They're pretty good. Lightweight and can be fitted with voice activiated mikes. Just have to keep the squelch way down. I used to spend a lot of time shooting/hunting in the desert with some friends and one of the guys was a comm expert. He built several PRC 25 radios. They were kinda cool. I don't know how he did it but they could range out to 25 miles on a good day. If I remember correctly, he had them mounted in 50 caliber ammo cans and they fit rather nicely in a large alice pack. But, by the time you add an extra battery, you're talking some weight! Glad I never had to carry that **** thing. Good luck on your adventure. Sounds like you guys are pretty squared away. norseman Posted April 17, 2014 Admin Author Share Posted April 17, 2014 Just a update because I hate it when people don't update things. This operation flopped, my jet is getting a new impeller and bearings as we speak and will be ready to go for summer. So that isn't the issue, the issue is lack of interest in participating. I had three sign up with one only able to participate as data analysis. So with only two total people on the ground I have scrapped it. In other news, I will be hitting the trails soon with my horse and will be trying some different call sets with the hopes of calling Grendel in. ohiobill
Sorry to hear that participation wasn't up to snuff. Wish I was closer. Good luck!
BobbyO Posted April 17, 2014 SSR Team Share Posted April 17, 2014 The geography and the hours needed to put into something like this make things so tough. We live to fight another day however.
