Bigfoot Stalking People

Hi folks:

Does anyone here have any first hand experience of allegedly getting stalked by a BF?

A gentleman I had the opportunity to speak with had an experience this last February on his property where 'something' was following him from a tree line, just deep enough into it where he couldn't see it.  When he walked, it walked, when he stopped, it stopped.  He even did the old 'quick stop' to get it to take a step or two more before it stopped.

He could hear it breaking through the hard pack snow.  Bugged him so much that he basically turned tail and hauled to his truck.

He now carries a sidearm when he's out.  He was pretty unnerved.

SO, has anyone else experienced this or had someone close to them experience it?

Does being 'escorted' out of the woods count?   If so, yes.   It was just intimidation, not "stalking" because it never really closed on us ... and it could have.

I know a fellow who said the exact same thing. He's an older fellow and this happened when he was young, so that would be probably 60 years or so back. He was a true woodsman and knew his stuff. That it could have been a Bigfoot never entered his mind, or mine when he told the story, we just didn't give them any thought back then. He said it was a mountain lion, or what they call "panthers" here locally.

The locals here, including my family who also lived way back in the woods are full of "panther" stories. Hearing screams, etc. I often wonder now if it could have been something else.

The city folks and biologists used to scoff at these stories. Said there were no panthers here, absolutely none. I once mentioned in school a story my grandfather told about panthers. The teacher told me that panthers do not exist here and to stop telling lies. Ever since game cams came out though, they have been captured on camera several times. Those who said they don't exist here had to eat their words.

I would say that escorting would count, though be considered with an asterisk at the side.

Another pal of mine had an escort experience in Oregon.  He and his pal were walked off the side of a mountain.

In the case mentioned in the OP, there was no aggression or what-have-you.  Just 'something' following him in the treeline 30 or so yards in.  Dense pines.

This guy was no stranger to the woods either.  He thought bear at first....it still could have been, but it would be pretty early for bears and there ain't a ton around here.

Yes, I know a few folks, some within my extended family that have had the experience of being flanked and something stepping when they stepped. It seems very common with hunters.

I wrote about being stalked a few months back.  Can't remember the thread.  It was just after I saw the pregnant female while fishing.  Two individuals were in positions where they could watch me while a third maneuvered into a copse of trees directly behind me.  They communicated with wood knocks.  One on the ridge above and behind me, one down the shore of the lake from me, and the other moving from the opposite side of the lake around to the copse.  I knew from the knocking that there were people in the woods.  It was when everything went silent that I realized someone was behind me.

I have.  On more than one occasion.  First couple of times, it scared the absolute bejeezus outta me.  Now...eh... not so much.

Yes, it has happened on multiple occasions.  Seems very common when you invade their neck of the woods...

High strangeness.....

Just the thought of it is disconcerting....when you really think about it....

Is "bear stalking humans" a common behavior of bears? When they can be heard?

Bears usually stalk humans for a couple reasons; they smell food on them, or they are trying to decide if they would make a nice snack.

These would be black bears. Just wondering what kind of stories about Black Bears stalking humans. They can be pretty clunky, can't see black bears as stealthy, but maybe someone who hunts knows?

I would be VERY afraid of a black bear stalking me.  MANY more humans are killed by black bears than by grizzlies.  In the early 90's, I was in a group camping in the Sangre de Christo range of the Rockies in New Mexico and during the night we heard a boy being mauled and his father being killed by a black bear several hundreds of yards away, a ridge over from us.  Absolutely horrible.  The next morning, tracks were found outside our campsite where the bear had stalked one of our group when he had gone to relieve himself.  Heavily armed rangers arrived shortly later and the bear was found and killed less than 100 yards from our camp.  Bears give me the heebee-jeebees worse than boogers do.

Yeah, I have to agree. However, not to disagree with Coonbo, but in my years of hiking my biggest problems have come from hogs and dogs. I have seen black bears in the wild, even found a Grizzly skeleton once.....I claimed the claws, which I think is not illegal, but I'm not sure unless I try to sell them. Oddly, many people have it in their heads that black bears will not attack a human, which is total BS.

Never have seen or heard an attack in the wild, that had to be indescribable.

If a bear is pawing through leaves to get at acorns or tearing apart logs to get at grubs they are fairly noisy, but when they are stalking, they're extremely quiet.   The very last thing in the woods I want to get into a physical tussle with is a bear.    I grew up in a bear preserve.  I could tell you some stories that'd make your hair stand on end if you have the background to understand the context.   I would WAY rather have a bigfoot in camp.  No comparison, not even close.
