Stillwater And Tennessee Trackers Field Notes

No bears? That would have been my guess. What did the other tracks look like? All the same?

Just wondering if the rear paws looked the same, if you could tell.

This is in Southern OH?

Chelefoot: 50% of the tracks looked like the first photo and 50% looked like the bottom one in this photo. Buck's tracks were running along the river bottom and these mystery tracks came off a ridgeline above the river bottom and broke in following the buck's.The buck's tracks looked like it was taking a natural pace, but these tracks were more hurried looking (rocks and gravel were really kicked up). Home base is Indiana.

I'm going to look up what kind of predators you guys have up there. Seems to big to be a cat.

I just looked, and I don't see any animals that large. Odd.

Biggest predators we have up here are coyotes. Them darn things breed like wildfire. That's why we had a Great Pyrenees out at the farm when we had sheep.

That's what I saw. Nothing larger than a coyote. That's strange for sure. Wonder what the heck was after the deer?

And it really can't be someone's boots tracking the deer. It's wider than it is long.

We stayed out for a couple more hours that evening after the sun went down. We heard a couple vocals about a mile to the west and about 15 minutes later we heard vocals to the east about a mile away in the direction where the tracks were going toward the power line right of way.

Well, maybe one of the other members who knows tracks can take a look at it.

Do you take a recorder with you? Be cool to get those vocals on audio.

Chelefoot: I welcome that idea. If you know of any members with track experience have them take a look at them.

We had a recorder with us, but we forgot the patch cable to hook it up to the parabolic dish. Vocals were pretty good on the dish, but not as good by the human ear. We have got to become more organized. Lol! Learned my lesson, cable's now in the go bag.

A couple of the guys looked at it and posted thoughts on it in the premium section. I can't quote what was said, so I'll try to translate:

One opinion is that it is a hog. Rear foot has fallen into the front foot track with a coyote following.

You ever seen a hog around there? Nasty beasts.

If their talking wild hogs, they are not in our area. There's never been a report or a sighting. They are reported in the southern areas of the state. I can pm you the county if you would like it so they can check it out for verification.

Chelefoot: I agree. It's a mystery. Like with all evidence it's never conclusive unless we physically see whatever made it for ourselves while it's being made.

Example: Coyote track
