Guest Rex
I make it to the ONF about 6-10 times a year. i have camped, hiked, 4 wheeled and rode dirtbikes all over it. i have a friend who lives in lake mack and we use his place as a staging area. I have talked to others there about bigfoot activity and have heard some pretty ugly stories although I myself have never seen or heard anything out of the ordinary. one comment there summed it up for me.. as for it being a "dangerous place".. Safest place in the world as long as you know what you are doing and you know how to protect yourself. I am out there at least 30 nights a year. I have always been very well armed and if I feel threatened I will kill you. No questions asked, if you threaten me or try and steal from me, or approach me after you are told to stay away you will be shot, then you will be fed to the gators. Yes it is like the wild west, and you have to think that way. When you enter the wilderness you and you alone are responsible for your safety. Who will you depend on to save your ass if you need help? 911 or 9mm? Think about it. If you can't handle it then it's simple, stay home. Then again... I am like that everywhere.. Painthorse
@Rex, yup that comment sums it up. JMO, we should all be in survival mode when out in areas like that. Unfortunately like I wrote in another post it's not just there in the ONF, we all need to assume it could be everywhere when out in the woods. I have to carry here also on my own property that borders the national forest. Even though I haven't caught people with my own eyes in my woods, my cams have. Guest Rex
Most folks just don't realize... when you stray more than about 15 miles from the coast here in florida... it gets pretty desolate and forboding.. it can and will kill you. its not all beaches and hot dog stands with a club on every corner.. There are some areas in the center of this state where I can go and not see another person for weeks. i am always well prepared and well armed. Painthorse
@Rex, so true! I'm currently doing property searches down there and because we prefer no near neighbors, prefer being in remote areas. I've been using Google Earth to check out prospective properties. "Ya just don't realize how remote it can be inland until you look at it from "above". Also the extensive inland swampy areas. Guest Rex
Look northwest of Okeechobee.. 30-40 miles or so.. there is a lot of land out there for sale with no "near neighbors".. it does get hotter than the hinges of hell in the summer though. Painthorse
Thanks Rex, familiar with that area, was raised in Broward (Pompano Beach) as a kid and lived for a while in Pioneer and the Clewiston area but did lots of fishing in Okeechobee and the feeder creeks. Actually looking to move anywhere from the Ft McCoy area up into the panhandle towards Tallahassee. Look northwest of Okeechobee.. 30-40 miles or so.. there is a lot of land out there for sale with no "near neighbors".. it does get hotter than the hinges of hell in the summer though. @Rex, great link, it makes me homesick for the cypress trees and Spanish moss and palmetto palms. Looks nice and squatchy, lol ! Best bass and crappie fishing in that water! It's a whole different world inland!

That sentiment is not reserved for the wilds of Fl. I was rafting in Colorado when I ran across the sign in the back country: "Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again" Have you ever seen deliverance?

Painthorse
Hmmm, yea, we get sick of outsiders. Where's me banjo? Hey, this is supposed to be a productive post, where's the bigfoot info? Well, having conversation about areas where there is b/f activity is productive along with the posts about the missing people that I posted a link to. Florida and the ONF has a lot of b/f history but it also has a history of bad things happening to people who frequent the forest's. If you would like I can post some saved notes from "possible activity" from the Marion county area just a couple miles from the ONF but they date back to 94-2005. BTW, nothing wrong with having a little lite fun.

Guest Serohs
@ Rex beautiful pictures! Some of that area reminds me of the St. Francis trail area over on the east side of the ONF where 44 crosses the St. Johns into Deland. That was a day hike the wife and I took to what used to be a booming bustling town in the St. Johns for lake county., Had a huge hotel, etc... For doing trade with steam boats on the St. Johns. That is where I took a picture of a "print" that seemed all out of place. So out of place that my now super skeptic spouse is open to the possibility and only mentioned after the trip that she had seen another print nearby but had been wrestling with it in her mind the whole trip and did not say anything to me at the time. I am at work and do not have the pictures here but I took a lot of deer that were right off the trail, etc... and of course the print. They are posted here somewhere else on the forums in a photography thread. I am not saying the print is of skunk ape origin, as someone else posted in that thread it could have been a double bear print. Though I do come across bear prints all the time and it does not have that feel. Anyway that is what brought me to these forums a couple years ago. That and strange sounds and stuff in a place called Flat Island Preserve south of Leesburg. http://www.seefloridaonline.com/stfrancistrail/
