Guest Theagenes
I did not see the face (sorry), but- D is the only one that has the hair right (I saw I side profile). I don't see a peak in the rear of the cranium, which was really visible on both that I saw. The saggital peak is a really interesting feature, because you don't really see it after the Paranthropus species and it's not very pronounced in those. This makes it difficult to reconcile Ketchum's hominin BF she's proposing. How do you have a species that's close enough to us to produce viable offspring yet far enough away to retain a saggital crest. I think can understand Meldrum's preference for a bipedal ape rather than a hairy hominin and his distancing himself from Ketchum.
mesabe
It was interesting for me, as I went right to the pictures without looking at the poll results. Then later realized that the 2 I picked, C & D were the only ones picked so far. I had 2 sightings, one of a juvenile like C, jet black hair, more pornounced human type nose, and deeper eye sockets, and tan skin. The other was an older larger squatch like D, more grey rather than black colored skin, longer wavy hair black with grey streaks, and a more human shaped nose very wide. Also both of mine had more of a sagital crest, Even more so on the older one. And the 2 I saw didn't have as much neck as in the pictures, the head was more blended into the shoulders. Guest
Not a witness, but excellent thread, Theagenes! I have to say that I am surprised by the results so far, but the sample is still very small - I would like to hear from folks who voted "none of the above," and why. I like that folks are chiming in on where they had their sighting, since there is much talk of seemingly regional subtypes.
Guest
Other than color, "D" bears a striking resemblance to Dr. Zaius.

I imagine the saggital crest would have much to do with choice of food: how tough to chew is their staple food? Could a human have the crest if he's eating leaves & twigs? Guest gerrykleier
I picked B , but my sighting was from a bit of a distance. The face was visible though. I though I was looking at a 'Gorilla' at first. More hair than B. Also, it's so long ago that I'm not certain about the nose. I was having to steer my car along a winding canyon road while at the same time looking! B looked most Gorilla like, so I picked it. GK
Guest Scout1959
I'm surprised that the poll is tending toward the most ape looking pictures.
Guest
I'm surprised that the poll is tending toward the most ape looking pictures. well, the polling is by honor(with on-line BFers!)? and also the choices seem slanted toward ape like features. with few looking more human (say an old pudgy Irishman with suntanned skin and red hair and beard or Australian aboriginal?) but more importantly the votes show 4 cast for "other" and 4 for the dark skin bearded "ape" and the other three dispersed between two choices..so, it isn't clear at all.. .it may be in the current atmosphere of MK's DNA results that the ape crowd is more motivated to vote as well... surveys are one of the hardest things to write balanced and interpret and very dependent on sample size, etc....but I do love the idea and topic and am eager to see some more input here... p.s. I did not vote because I have not yet had a good daytime look at a face, Edited December 25, 2012 by apehuman

Guest Theagenes
OntarioSquatch, that's great, but I really would like to keep the focus of this thread on what witnesses have actually seen and how those sightings match up with known hominids. I think we're already beginning to see an interesting pattern. That said, I think a separate thread in the PGF forum comparing eye witness sightings to the PGF creature would be very interesting (is there one already?). I'd like really get opinions from witnesses on what they think about Patty and how she squares with their own experiences.
Guest
Great thread Theagenes. Although I only witnessed a portion of the face (mid forehead to mid cheekbone) none of the pictures came close. I find it interesting that most of the votes and comments gravitate to the same general part of the image timeline. Mine included.
Guest Scout1959
http://humanorigins.si.edu/evidence/human-fossils/species/homo-habilis If you add a bit more hair the picture in this link looks more like Patty than any of the pictures in the poll do to me anyways. Guest
Theagenes, i have wanted to start a thread like that. I will go do it.
Guest
None are hairy enough. The one I saw was totally hair covered, as far as I could tell. Hair over the eyes, face. LIke a muppet, with tufty fur like in the Matilda picture. Edited December 26, 2012 by Kings Canyon
