southernyahoo
The camera operations were, in hindsight, a huge waste of time and money. However, we would not be here had we not gone there. No regrets. The people who began investigating there. were there long before the camera project started, and there had always been some action there of one sort or another. Only the type of operations has changed and the name(s) of the group(s) involved. Poor Mr. Branson had some trouble keeping track of that didn't he? Guest
The people who began investigating there. were there long before the camera project started... Alton's been going in the longest, outside family members and such. I think his first visit was in 2001.
Guest zenmonkey
Alton's been going in the longest, outside family members and such. I think his first visit was in 2001. I am friends with a fellow who was there on one of the first trips to X I believe he had said Alton was as well, He showed me where it was. (I won't tell) this of course was years ago When they were with BFRO correct me if i am wrong but wasn't alton with them at one point in time? Also could you post some pics of X? cabins and such I've seen a few here and there. When listening to the show I always have a mental picture I just wonder how far off I am. Thanks! Guest Stan Norton
Brian, a couple of questions if you'd be so kind... Besides elevation and comfort, what was the thinking behind putting overwatch onto a platform immediately adjacent to the cabin? Am I right in thinking this positioning has restricted your field of view/fire somewhat? What benefits outweighed the restriction in observation? Is there a site plan of the cabin area in X? I'm sure I can't be the only BFS fan who has trouble picturing the layout of the site from the often very detailed descriptions of various features given by you and your colleagues...it would add to the enjoyment if there were a basic site plan. Did David see or hear anything that you had hoped may persuade him a little more? Did his visit coincide with a lull in activity? Many thanks...and very much looking forward to the next X show. Guest
When they were with BFRO correct me if i am wrong but wasn't alton with them at one point in time? Both Alton and Daryl were in the BFRO when the BFRO was a very different organization. Before the ecotourism ventures. Also could you post some pics of X? cabins and such I've seen a few here and there. We intentionally avoid publishing too many images with the cabins in them. Besides elevation and comfort, what was the thinking behind putting overwatch onto a platform immediately adjacent to the cabin? Am I right in thinking this positioning has restricted your field of view/fire somewhat? What benefits outweighed the restriction in observation? The original plan was to put the tower away from the cabin. At least, that was its configuration when we first started talking about it. However, by placing it in conjunction with the structure, we can enter and exit without being seen. We've gone to great lengths to create a structure that makes no noise while people are moving about inside it. The original cabin makes all kinds of noise due to its age. There was no place to put it that wouldn't have led to some king of blind spot (unless we made it much taller). We've situated it such to minimize any field of view issues. Is there a site plan of the cabin area in X? I'm sure I can't be the only BFS fan who has trouble picturing the layout of the site from the often very detailed descriptions of various features given by you and your colleagues...it would add to the enjoyment if there were a basic site plan. Again, we don't publish specifics, but they're arranged more or less along with the cardinal points on a compass. We refer to them that way. The North, South, East, and West cabins. There are a few other specific landmarks, but we don't generally discuss them publically. Did David see or hear anything that you had hoped may persuade him a little more? Did his visit coincide with a lull in activity? David was there for the tree event. He was among those who saw the top of the tree swinging around. Since none of us could see the animal responsible (and it was undoubtedly an animal since there was no wind of any kind), it wasn't sufficient to sway his thinking totally. But it was promising. He's still not experienced a nice, clear rock throw with ripping leaves and solid thudding impact on the ground. David was also present last year, but that week was dead as a doornail. More or less. southernyahoo
Besides elevation and comfort, what was the thinking behind putting overwatch onto a platform immediately adjacent to the cabin? I know that if I were going to be shooting at anything in the woods at night, I'd have to be stationed where I could keep tabs on the people that are suppose to be in the cabin sleeping. Whether they were dilligent in reporting their positions to me or not, I'd have to know for sure before taking a shot at a manlike form without the benefit of broad daylight. Guest
Which, of course, is why all that is part of our protocols with regard to keeping Overwatch.

Please tell me you haven't got rid of the ice machine and jacuzzi? Just listened to the podcast, it was good to hear the latest with regards to X, thanks for taking the time and effort to break the hiatus. I always remember the recording of the stones raining down on the cabin roof, which I assume has not been replicated yet this year. Is it fair to say that current activity has not yet reached the levels of previous years?

Is it fair to say that current activity has not yet reached the levels of previous years? No, we haven't heard anything like that so far this year. Recent heavy sustained rains in the region seemed to have caused a pause in their activity, but it's since ramped up again. It's a spotty thing. They're pretty quiet for a while then get active again. So far, we haven't seen any correlation to things like moon phase. Not even short periods of rain. But they don't appear to get around as much with the creeks are high and/or it's cold out.
