a joke or 2 , imo, help lube the forum flow..

now if someone wants to jump in with hard core BF evidence of stalking or a good personal experience story   then by all means stall  the comic relief and give the winner the open floor.

but fwiw, I make a habit of checking the back trail fairly often especially at night because you never know.

Thanks to you, too, Ky, for being a peaceful presence in the woods. I'm certain the hairy guys appreciate that.    :)

I am rather skeptical of a bigfoot stalking a person in general, which goes against almost everything we believe to be true about these ELUSIVE creatures.  To be clear, i am not questioning what anyone here is stating happened to them, but more of the concept of a stalking or following in general.  The majority of research does not seam to support this, and if they were really that close as some of you claim, wouldn't it be logical that they would attempt some sort of contact?

I not only talk to BF when I think they are near or stalking me I go towards them.     Probably dangerous but I want to get video.   I figure they hide but if you get close enough they will walk away.   You might get a growl before they do move away.   Like I said I backed out when I did get growled at that time.       If it feels cornered it could get very dangerous.    I think there were two of them and one was flanking me at the same time.    I heard a branch break at my 8 o'clock position relative to where I heard the growl.   For all I know it might have broken the branch to distract me from the other one.       BF as a top predator are used to prey running.    I try to be totally unpredictable.     When I had my closest encounter I had reversed directions three times so if they were following me they presumed I was traveling 90 degrees to where I really was moving and I almost got run over by one of them.  I heard them initially, coming from the direction I had gone first before coming out on the same trail.         The danger there is if it is not a BF but a bear that you hear following and move towards that.     I will say that the footsteps I heard were definitely bipedal,  so in this particular case I knew it was a BF.    Sounded just like the T Rex in Jurassic park moving through the dry underbrush towards me.    At that time I did not have my recorder pack mounted so did not get the recorder on soon enough to get the vocalizations back and forth and the footsteps.     That would have been really great to get all of that on a recording in stereo.

I did field work yesterday and got scared but not by BF.      I heard a pack of large dogs after something headed my way.     Someone let a bunch a malamute dogs out in the woods and they have been reported taking down game and farm animals.    One farmer intervened and the dogs turned on him.    He shot two of them but the rest got away.     I got out of there as fast as I could yesterday.     I carry a gun but a pack can surround you and take you down from behind.    I don't know if this was the pack but I did not want to stay and find out.     Was a shame because I had heard some low thuds in that direction.     For all I know the dogs could have been messing with BF.      I was waiting for a yelp when a dog got thrown but did not hear anything like that.    This was out of my normal field work area so any BF would not know me.   I would not be surprised if the BF in my normal area would protect me from the dogs.     They have left gifts for me even though I normally do not do gifting.    Randy

I am much more afraid of wild dogs when out hiking than BF.  #1 on the list would be man whether by friendly hunting accident or protection of drug area followed by other wild animals with poisonous snakes the top of the list. Disease infested bugs such as ticks are pretty high on the list as well.   Predation by BF while possible, is way down.

The use of the term stalking is problematic because I think with BF it could have two meanings.     Witness evidence suggest that BF follow or stalk people, presumably out of curiosity, or just escorting them out of the woods.    Since they are a predator they also stalk as part of hunting.    As humans we cannot know what intent that BF stalking behavior has in a given situation.     From personal experience, if BF are moving with any speed at all they are not noiseless with a normal forest with a lot of down and dead wood.      Certainly they can and will approach nearly noiselessly in a static situation like approaching your campground when they can carefully place each footstep to avoid breaking dead wood.     But if they are moving with any speed because you are, or because they are unaware you are present, they are not noiseless,    If following they will stop when you do in hope that you are not hearing them over your own noises.      That behavior has been reported dozens of times.     I would think since they are capable of running speeds in the high twenties or low thirty MPH, if they are close enough to hear following you and do not attack in a minute or two, I don't think they probably will.    They would have some other agenda.

Yes, i have been escorted out at least twice. It was quite fast since it kinda encircled me in no time, made noise as to announce itself saying I want you to go this way and move it!

Surprisingly,  Oh so quiet when it wanted.  It took the same route on two different occasions so I listened carefully.

Bears! uggg. Mom was killed by one in Algonquin.

Your experience makes me wonder why they do that escort thing sometimes when they could just lurk and you would never know they are around and leave the area.    Perhaps it is protecting juveniles in the area.    Another reason could be that near adult male juveniles do that sort of thing to show how brave or powerful they are.     It is certainly inconsistent for whatever reason.   When I experienced the chest beating thing that time, it choose to do that but did not show itself.    What sense does that make?    Is their natural urge to hide stronger than their urge to intimidate because I had the audacity to urinate in its presence?   Randy

I'll drop back to Native American accounts.  A significant number portray bigfoot as a predator and kidnapper of humans.

I agree with you JDL, Plus there are different types of Sasquatch that seem more aggressive than other types. The Dog/Wolfman type of Sasquatch is believed to have killed a family near us at The Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky.  That has to be the most horrible attack since all 4 family members were slaughtered, including their 2 children. The youngest child, a 3 or 4 year old girl, was hidden in a tree nearby for eating later. The police followed the trail of blood and found her stashed up in a tree.

SS,  Is there evidence to suggest this is more than just a story? I've heard about it before but could never find anything convincing, such as a report of a family killed by any means in LBL. How does your local to LBL population view it?

Chest beating is the first I've heard of this behavior, other than gorillas. BFs are probably paranoid since the know humans can carry guns that are hidden, so they must keep a distance and out of sight.

I hate to think that the stalking behavior is simply a BF full of food and it's just practicing its stalking skills. While practicing, it tries to see a holstered gun since this plays into the stalking game of chance and shows intelligence. Are they cold and calculation much like a human stalker or simply a kind forest animal trying to protect its family?

Seems like one main objective is to never be seen by humans, since they know humans will tell others and will bring others back. They know humans are curious and will come in droves to see them.
