Guest Knuck
I have noticed that like most threads here, this one immediately migrated far away from the OP. Pitiful. Come on folks, geeeezzz! ShadowBorn Posted September 29, 2011 Moderator Share Posted September 29, 2011 My camping encounter happened in Northern Michigan in the Huron National Forest where i was camping with two others.I have said this before but I will repeat cause i have no problem with it.The only problem i have with my encounters are the dates but time of year I am sure i remember.I believe it was fall and around the end or maybe the middle of october during bow season here in Michigan.I was fresh to bigfooting and did not know much like I do now.I think the encounter took place on a friday at around mdinight or maybe past midnight.I was in my tent asleep,I had my pistol a .45 auto under my pillow,I also had my knife. The tent tents door was facing away from the fire and there was this tree in front of this tent where my head laid that some space where a person could through it. Well as i layed there sleeping a was woken up by some comotion outside my tent.Mean while the other two who were camping with me had left me there alone and had walked to the creek.I will leave names out for now but one did have a thermo and this is all I will say about that.Well I was awoken and i had a walkie talkie and tried to contact the other two with no luck.I was hearing some heavy steps around the fire as well as breathing. well I rolled over on my belly and grabbed my pistol and started to chamber a round real slow.my hands were shaky and yes the sounds in the tent were intense but I kept listening to the sounds.I was scared to death and i did not want to move.I kept calling on the walkie talkies and no one was hearing me.I said to myself that this is crazy cause i do not want to see what it is that is out there.I felt some how if i spooked it that i would die. I thought of opening a hole in the tent but that scared me even more.Just something you have to expierance. Well what ever was out ther had left and the other two had arrived and i did not get out of that tent until I heard their voices. As I stepped out one of them said look what they have left us ,it was a rock a nice size rock on this log bench that was at our camp sight. They took the salmon that was brought in from Oregan(did I spell that state right if not sorry)It was left there on the side of the log by thermo who was known on the net by. I keep going back to that day and saying to my self that i could have died that night if i would have made the wrong choice cuase that day i had placed a camera trap on the tree that was by my head. That night I had placed black tape on it so that it would not take picture of us while we were in camp. What if I would have taken the tape of that camera trap would i be here telling you about my encounters.I have dreams of that night and they are not good ones,I wake up screaming and i hate them. You made the right decision, cool heads always prevail with a hot weapon and although terrified you played it cool and it turned out just fine. Are you quite certain your two camp-mates were not having some fun at your expense? I seriously doubt they would if they where well aware that you where armed. That would be fool-hearty to say the least. If Sasquatch came calling and wanted to hurt you it would have, although it may well have meant to frighten you violence was not on the menu for the evening. Sasquatch is a thinking being, all reports seem to indicate this, as well as personal experiences from members here. You would have needed that weapon had a it been a black or brown bear in your camp at night. One up-side to a curious Sasquatch sitting over-watch on your camp is that I doubt a bear in predatory mode would come calling that night lol. Guest Biggie
I have dreams of that night and they are not good ones,I wake up screaming and i hate them. A lot of people experience that after their encounters. Was this one of the times you had telepathic thoughts?

The question is in regard to camping encounters. Not specifically about bringing the family pet! -Knuck We did get off the original point. The thread theme is: Some people may believe that while camping and BF begins to threaten is a perfect situation to see and study BF regardless of the danger. This could be compared to tornado chasers since it's dangerous, exciting, and reveals facts. If you are a researchers how would you use this situation for your benefit. Guest wild eyed willy
If what had happened to the OP concerning the screams around camp had happened to me, as a novice I wouldn't have known what it meant. I would have stayed out of ignorance and continued whatever I was doing. I don't think it would have occured to me that this might be a warning. You folks with experiance can help here.. Is there a notable differance between the normal sounds a BF makes and warnings offered to discorage intruders? Would you know you were being warned? Guest uprightchimp
well, I for one would certainly think I'm not wanted if I heard deep loud growls THEN having big rocks thrown @ me if I was in a bigfoot habitat area .I really don't think that there would any dought as to the "message" that bigfoot was directing @ me! The question was about screams and the meaning of different types of screams. Many may think it's a cougar and just keep on camping. This summer while camping in prime BF country in Oregon, my wife heard a scream in the middle of the night and I slept through it. I wondered if it was a cougar. She was rattled. wiiawiwb
Not sure what one's alternatives are if the messages to leave the area occur at night. I'd rather stay put in front of a fire until morning rather than risk trying to hike out in the darkness.

I was run out of the woods at night one time and I was alone, I think I might have stayed if I wasn't, but I dunno.
Guest wudewasa
Has anyone ever tried to use fireworks to scare the potentially dangerous wildlife away from your campsite? A cherry bomb or a M-80 or two would drive most critters off.

Sometimes you are given no alternative you are nearly physically with hot breath down your collar escorted out.....some of the baddest, boldest trackers have had those kind of experiences far into dense woods at night so you listen to your inner voice that says "bolt". Guest
how were you run off? any details you can share about the event? It's something instinctive really... When you've spent allot of time alone in the wilderness and never had a problem, been exposed to some human related dangers in the course of a military career...then find yourself on the edge of terror in the woods in broad daylight not 2 miles from home somethings wrong. Its when everything goes quiet and you know your not alone, your ears start to tingle and you hear your own pulse, every hair on your body is on end and your skin crawls. Maybe it's infra-sound. maybe it's our own dormant instincts resurrecting themselves, maybe we smell something so minute we don't realize it but our brain registers it..something out of our past. Maybe it's God saying "Hey stupid.....you're in over your head and your on your own if you linger" I have no clue but it's hard to ignore. Sometimes it passes, I usually force myself to wait it out and see. If it doesn't I I just do a tactical egress as we say, slow is smooth, smooth is fast back to the house or back to my vehicle. But one evening not long before dusk, I was in Lake Creek Bottom and I swear I heard a baby crying, not bawling just that soft baby type of whimper very close, danger close and I knew it. All those feelings listed above kicked in and I was prepared for the worst. I was not armed back then, now I always am. I knew it was time to beat feet and un-ass the BF's AO lol. It wasn't a scream that set me running, it was very low, very serious, very visceral growl, followed by the sound of a large fallen limb being picked up from the ground. I don't know if it was going to throw it at me, or beat me to death with it but I wasn't going to find out. I didn't go back out for weeks after that and I have only been back to that spot once since with no contact. Guest Biggie
I knew it was time to beat feet and un-ass the BF's AO lol. I haven't heard those expressions in awhile. I got a chuckle out of that. Sounds like it had a little one with it and just didn't want you around to potentially harm it is all.
