Airdale Posted June 9, 2023 Share Posted June 9, 2023 I spent more time looking at it than I should and am still not certain about it. It does look like a reflection but there's a problem with that. There's a curving rise in the ground between the camera and the tree and I couldn't see any of the subject spilling over on to the rise in the foreground which it would if there was a "pane of glass" placed there. That would only work if the glass were contoured on the bottom to match the curvature of the rise in the foreground. That would require some kind of support that would keep it firmly in place, and I see no evidence of that. As best as I can see, it also appears that the tree obscures the subject which would make it even more difficult, likely requiring some kind of CGI skills. The fact that the videographer stated that he thought it was just a reflection at first is also a point in favor of authenticity. A few years ago I would have automatically defaulted to some kind of optical trick but since "Secret of Skinwalker Ranch" began on the History Channel and extensive reading on the background of the phenomena in the area, my world view has altered radically. I've always been interested in and open minded on such things, but seeing them on camera and reading about the experiences of people whose reputation I trust has widened my views. Bottom line, I wouldn't make a firm decision on the video either one way or the other with the information available to me. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've only seen three of his videos, and I don't know anything about him, but I kinda like him. He's personable. He's on the "wait and see more" list. It would be interesting should it prove an additional observation of such a phenomenon. But the even the setting looks like what I'm remembering. I can't recall where that first event took place. They have a fairly even branch distribution so we ought to be able to get a ballpark height for the thing even if he didn't recreate or go closer. I wouldn't automatically dismiss this as a hoax. That's something of a cop out. As long as we're saying "unknown", we don't have to prove what it is or isn't. We should equally try to prove whatever it is, holding the standard for "weird" and the standard for "normal" to the same level. Since hearing of the Predator like shimmering stealth I crank my head around always while hiking. Had the insects not been pestering the lens of this camera I would feel more confident in any detailed analysis of what was happening. My guess is it would be very difficult to see as it was happening. I'd probably not give it a second thought thinking it was just an anomaly created by the wind or a smudge on my contacts. Freaked me out when I heard it, too. So much so that I went back out there alone the next week to stay overnight and try to get more, but nothing was recorded. Not saying Grant (or Gary) Reed's videos aren't legit. After what I have experienced in the last few years, they very well may be. He seems to be recording something unusual. I have had a sinking feeling from time to time but I rinsed it away. ( DAWN works well ). Forget the secrets to skinwalker ranch, get the Lotto numbers.
