Leave a bunch of kitchen tongs around, then listen for the clacking.

Last year on my bfro expedition we actually had one come into camp in the middle of the night and it was tapping on my camping stove.

We get BF leaving handprints on house windows, cars, getting into coolers, tapping on cooking stoves etc.

To me that leaves only one answer to the age old question of bigfoots and trail cams.  has to be the sensors.    If they exist they must be seeing in a different spectrum than us.

And that naturally leads us down the path regarding anatomy and such…..   They are obviously not afraid of man made things or smells…..🤷🏻🤷🏻.    But I suppose that’s a whole other horse to beat(again).

Does part of the BFRO agreement state that no one is allowed out of their tents at night?

Either they see in a different spectrum, possibly what contributes to eye glow that we see. Or maybe they hear the electronics on the game cams on. I know there are times I could hear if a TV is on and the house is quiet, or a buzzing coming from a charger.

There is nowhere I believe that says you need to stay in your tent. But, I think everyone is a little smarter than roaming into someone else’s camp site and messing with them. Although no guns are allowed, I do have reason to believe some people may keep them in their tents at night for safety. I was the last person on the edge of camp when that happened. I heard whatever it was walk down from the hill slope next to our camp. And this was 3:30 in the morning.

It could certainly be the sound as well but other things like plug in coolers, and houses make noise, hum etc.

I think what Hiflier was hinting at was not so much another camper entering your site, but why not get out and investigate a potential BF interaction if that is the whole point of the outing.    The expeditions are there to study something that goes bump in the night, be prepared to investigate it at night.   Maybe I’m wrong on his intent?? 🤷🏻🤷🏻

Correct.

Myself and three others broke away from our group to sit quietly in the bushes to see if anything trails them. They continued up the trail maybe another 100-150yards. I was scanning the area with the thermal unit I was borrowing. I looked at the group as they departed from this area that had a log laying down on the floor. The last member in line was my height(5’7”). As they departed I started scanning again, when I came back to the area they departed from I saw the largest figure walking from the hill to the exact location they departed from. This figure was near double the height of the last person was. The shoulders were sooo wide, it swayed back and forth and then lifted its arm up as if it were pointing in the direction the group walked off in. The arm was so long, I’m estimating it was about 5’ long. I was in such shock that I tried telling my small group where it was at but I couldn’t get my words in order to give good enough directions as to where to look. I took my eye off him for one second, and it was gone. I was shaking. And I don’t get that worked up for anything. Like I’ve said before, I’ve been to numerous haunted locations and stayed the night there. I’ve seen ghost, and objects move. It doesn’t phase me. This was ultimate shock and disbelief.  Later on that trail, we had proceeded up in. Eye glow was seen by my wife, and as we left out of the area, we were followed out on the side of us by loud bipedal footstep. It basically escorted us out of the area.

I hear your alarm and freeze reaction, had one approach me after civil twilight within five feet, I was determined to sit on the stump where I was prepared to take in all that I could.  Luckily after approach me from below in a zigzag pattern it diverted across my visual foreground paralleling in front of me at five ft.  Almost no tech for me, had a pocket audiorecorder in a jacket running but was a relatively silent encounter so that was not helpful really..  The eyeglow in my instance was dayglo green and sparkly, subject moved head on shoulders from 35 ft making the sparkly green stand out even in side profile.  Very spooky to encounter the unknown for sure, good on you, a one in a million encounter.  They are even more alarming when they happen on your own property btw, lol.

Speaking for myself. I’m not an avid outdoorsman. I’ve spent minimal time in the woods. I’m (and a lot of other I’ve spoken with) are gung-ho during the day. But when it’s the middle of the night and you know there is something outside your tent, you have a little trepidation. I applause anyone that would bust out their tent to see what’s making the noise. But for some reason, if I’m out on the trail at night, i don’t have an issues sitting in the dark and investigating.

That sounds like an amazing experience. I would love to see that type of eye glow. They frequent your property often?

I’ve told this story many times. But was Elk hunting in Griz country and heard something in the mules grain outside the wall tent. In my underwear with my 44 mag in hand I unzipped the tent and aimed the flashlight at two giant chest high eyeballs. After swallowing my tongue I cocked the wheel gun and was pulling the trigger when it moo’d at me. A rancher was ranging cows on the national forest. And she was an angus black as coal. Helping herself to my mule’s grain. 🤣

But seriously just remember that a tent is a nylon tortilla and your the gooey center to a predator. I had stock so staying in the tent wasn’t an option. But I wouldn’t stay in the tent either way. Unless I just sleep through it which is entirely possible for me.

Did it see you? Your account sounds like it walked right past you without even a glance?

The reason to be out in the woods overnight on an expedition is to witness, through sight or sound, a curious sasquatch. We all do our best to encourage one to come closer. Try to trick one  into thinking they are safe to approach.

I'd rather stay out of the tent, not sleep, and be ready for activity should it occur than dooze off, become suddenly awakened, and charge out. Often, it takes precious moments for the mental fog to lift, gather your senses, and get a handle on where you are and what is happening. At that point, the magical moment has likely passed.

My tent is a an old 3/4 ton Dodge with a 1st Gen Cummins and a 5 speed.  Throw on the capper and a twin size mattress in it and I sleep damn near better than at home.
