^^^^Exactly.  But they all must be nuts.  Or all impaired.  Or all mistaken.  Or by far more unlikely, so far as to be easily dismissed as impossible:  a random concatenation of the above.

 

And add to this:  every scientist that has shown vital signs, in terms of attention to the evidence, comes down on the side of existence (frequently conservatively stated as "compelling scientific mystery we need to solve").

 

Against this the skeptics have:  not proven.  (They never say "yet.")

 

Not looking tends to generate that result.

 

If we can consider plate tectonics and evolution for all intents and purposes proven - and we can - this is, too.

 

We don't have a body (which is the concession I am making when I say "all of us agree that it's unproven").  But it's a concession, made out of...shoot, don't know why I do it.  So I'll stop doing it.

If you are going to dismiss the volume of consistent reports of which Gumshoeye has given a bare fragment, supplemented by an equal volume of compelling forensic evidence, the problem isn't with the witnesses or the proponents.  It's with you.

DWA, thank you for the follow up, it hammers home the point we're trying to put across here.  

 

To the skeptics I say instead of being led around like a steer with a ring in the nose, and understand it isn't about whether or if they exist, the more important question should be: Why will science never find evidence, and Why there never will be a body taken to show publicly. There is no doubt in my naïve mind these creatures have been killed over the years there is enough valid information - anecdotal or otherwise - that says they have. Now the discussion should be about the efficacy kill or not kill, since that is somebody else to determine that's not point of my message. I don't want to stray off topic and that's for another thread, and another time.

 

If you come here with the mindset they do not exist and that people only imagine what they want to see, it also applies to you as well, in that case your argument is weak, old and tiresome. That is the Ritalin way dealing with the immediate problem without looking for the underlying cause and effect.

 

The scripted old lines ripped from the skeptics playbook doesn't say anything new and when its recited it sounds illogical from the standpoint of tens of hundreds of witnesses crossing all economic class and demographical barriers who are reporting the same.

 

I already listed two alternative questions that should be asked, so let me add one additional question:

 

What is it that so many fear that would force them to plea for anonymity as a condition before recounting their experience? Tell me that please ....

What I'll say about the Yowie:  I had serious problems with that at first.  Australian mammal evolution has occurred pretty much in isolation.  How did yowie get there?  Only...the pattern of evidence seems to echo that for yeti and sasquatch.  Look at where land bridges might have happened in relevant timeframes and...well...look at the reports of the serious aquatic bent of sasquatch, and those land bridges get more than large enough for a similar animal to have made the swim.  And again:  if you are looking at an elephant in your living room, are you really going to enter the silly argument on the side of "this shouldn't be here, so let's discuss why it can't be"?

What I'll say about the Yowie:  I had serious problems with that at first.  Australian mammal evolution has occurred pretty much in isolation.  How did yowie get there?  Only...the pattern of evidence seems to echo that for yeti and sasquatch.  Look at where land bridges might have happened in relevant timeframes and...well...look at the reports of the serious aquatic bent of sasquatch, and those land bridges get more than large enough for a similar animal to have made the swim.  And again:  if you are looking at an elephant in your living room, are you really going to enter the silly argument on the side of "this shouldn't be here, so let's discuss why it can't be"?

 

Right.  The evidence says:  find what it is, genius, and then you might find out how it got there!

Wow - all those sightings and experiences listed are an impressive collection - and all from just one state (Michigan). I have so many questions - Have they all been investigated thoroughly and documented? If so, where? Are they available for inspection? Did any yield DNA evidence? Or any photographs/film of Bigfoot? Were they reported to independent news media or directly to members of the local Bigfoot research community? Are they all from different people or have some people reported multiple encounters?

 

With such a diversity of reports from the same state I wouldn't mind crunching the data when I get some spare time to see if any patterns emerge...

 

Gumshoeye: Sure .... While I admit to knowing little about Yowie, somebody (ies) are seeing something or everyone else is hallucinating .... in that case everyone needs some psychiatric intervention too. It can only be one grand hoax, or it isn't. Take your pick. Something isn't adding up.

 

I don't buy into the whole "people are seeing something real or they are hallucinating/mentally ill" ideal nor that of "it's all one grand hoax or it isn't" because it is a false dichotomy - there are many more options (and combination of options) to consider. People - individually and collectively - are far more complex than black or white...

Even when seas were at their lowest point because of the "ice age" Sahul (Australia + New Guinea) was too far to be seen from Asia or any of the Asian islands. Any animal attempting to swim the distance were not island-hopping (swimming from one exposed landmass to the other) - they would be swimming into what appeared to be open ocean in the hope of finding land...

What evidence? The only "evidence" is of people making claims - what's so mysterious about that? People say all sorts of things and have done so throughout recorded history and will surely continue to do so long after we are all worm food...

 

You can disprove things from an armchair as easily as you can prove them. Which has been more successful to date in relation to Yowie/Bigfoot? FYI - my interest in the subject is not just of the armchair variety - I actively search for the big hairy bugger in both daylight and night (hence "Night Walker") and encourage others to do so too. I even know of a supposed Yowie-habituation site nearby (if you're ever in Oz - I'll take you there). People are claiming sightings in my local area but, ultimately, that's all they have - claims...

 

You're using bird migration to explain how Yowies can swim into open ocean in order to find land? Ok... Maybe Yowies can fly too - we can't prove that they don't...

 

Starting from the position that Yowie is a real creature due only to the "evidence" of people saying it is so is beginning the search via confirmation bias - forcing the "evidence" to fit a preconceived notion. We all know what it is but just don't like to think that it applies to us, personally. Yet aren't all the blobsquatch photos, ambiguous audios, and dodgy-looking footprint casts examples of cooking things up in one's head? On the other hand, beginning with "What's going on here?" is more of an open question which allows one to follow the objective evidence and the subjective "evidence" to wherever it leads. That's what I'm trying to do. Something is going on but there is no objective evidence that we're dealing with one or more undiscovered species of giant ape-men...

 

I would love for the Yowie to be proven real but that is simply not going to happen. It's a human-phenomenon rather than a zoological one. Is my position and approach going to cause friction here? I'm not calling people "crazy" or "frauds" or "liars" for their beliefs and experiences - I think there actually may be some unknown cognitive mechanism similar to that of the "Old Hag" phenomenon underlying the whole Yowie/Bigfoot phenomenon. It's just that few have bothered to look in that direction so far...

Yup, always a cool way to proceed in science, starting with one's conclusion.

 

Evidence is evidence, sorry.  I don't have any idea who you are; and yowie reports from Australia are from thousands of people I don't know.  I'm gonna take the existence of their reports over your opinion of what they represent.

 

See now, you were supposed to explain how birds and butterflies do what is patently impossible...and, um, you didn't, and, um, they do, don't they.  The reports exist; they coincide with forensic evidence...and armchair dismissal ain't feeding the bulldog.  Do yourself a favor.  Google "iguanas rafting from Guadeloupe to Anguilla."  200 miles, essentially by random chance. Read how scientists just didn't believe something like that was possible...until they saw it happen.  Compared to animals for which an aquatic bent has been demonstrated by evidence actually making a deliberate swim, it is impossible.  But it happened.

 

Once again, people!  "People have been telling stories and making stuff up forever...and therefore they are doing it here" doesn't cut it.  Everything with the evidence pattern for these animals has been proven.  Other than these animals...for which, for all intents and purposes, no one is looking.

 

And that's not interesting to you.  Oh.  OK.

I doubt that there are thousands of Yowie reports. If there are then most would come from maybe a few dozen people (at least one claims hundreds of encounters). I don't know you either so, of course, you are free to take those anecdotes over my opinion but we are also free to discuss alternative explanations, right?

 

To explain how birds and butterflies migrate you just need to Google it. How do birds migrate without getting lost & how do butterflies find their way - but it isn't really relevant to primates...

 

There are plenty of people out searching for the Yowie and for Bigfoot - it's quite a hobby. That their "evidence" is remarkably similar whilst consistently failing to provide something concrete (like DNA) is significant and you are free to interpret it as you like and so am I. 

 

 

Objective evidence of Yowie/Bigfoot is of great interest to me but where is it? All we have is subjective evidence and that is still of great interest to me (just in a different way to you). Is that not ok? Am I breaking some sort of Bigfoot-research taboo?

There is plenty of objective evidence (beyond personal anecdotes) of those iguanas existing but non of Yowie/Bigfoot. I'm not at all suggesting people are crazy for claiming to experience Bigfoot - I'm suggesting that people do so because they are human - just like everyone else...

It's a Catch-22 - can't get full-time funding to search for Bigfoot because you can't find objective evidence & you can't find objective evidence because you are not funded full-time. 

 

Do you not even bother to go out and search for yourself? That's ok - it's not for everyone. Plenty of people do (even if they "don't count") and it is significant that they are claiming to experience Bigfoot much of the time - its just that their own objective evidence doesn't support that conclusion. The "evidence" usually resembles what the Finding Bigfoot team (who are fully funded) find. There's something in that but probably not an undiscovered species of man-ape...
