Guest wudewasa Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 David Shealy, who runs http://www.skunkape.info/ came up with the "alligator den" explanation. From: http://www.skunkape.info/content/view/79/60/ "Evidence suggest that Skunk Apes spend a great deal of time in underground caverns or alligator caves. Many people believe that methane gas emitted by decaying matter in these low lying areas are what gives the Skunk Ape it's unique skunky/rotten egg odor. Alligator caves are easily located in times of low water in the Everglades. Search cypress swamps and willow outcrops in the grasslands and marsh." I'm surprised that the Discovery Network didn't recruit this guy for "Finding Bigfoot." He'd fit the "entertainment" aspect of this show very well! Then again, maybe he will be on the season 2 posse of squatchers!
Painthorse Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 MM says on his site that they ID'd it as a horse on location but AP edited as seen on the show. So what's else was creatively edited? Don't get me wrong I'm well aware that all of these shows do this! Well I'm glad that at least MM says on his site that they ID'd it as a horse. There's a second or two before that clip gets cut where you could see the head turn to the left, lol. When we saw that segment all 3 of us said horse at the same time, LMAO!
BobbyO Posted June 7, 2011 SSR Team Posted June 7, 2011 If it dosen't get corrected, I think many will just tune the show out. IMO " The heat blip in the meadow was a horse. I said so on camera. I talked about the horse for a good long while. I figured the producers would edit it honestly, but they didn’t. Their editing made it look as though I did not identify the figure before it ran off. I did. It was a horse. They inserted lines from other scenes where I talk about something running away before I could figure out what it was. As I said before, the producers and editors only care about entertainment. They don’t care about what we care about, but we have very limited influence for these first episodes … and we had zero influence over the editing. That wasn’t the only dishonest thing they did in the name of entertainment. At one point I read some VO lines they had written as transition explanations. I read it out loud the first time and read through a line saying “overwhelming evidence†… then I stopped and said, “We gotta redo that. I’m going to say ‘a collection of evidence’ because it’s NOT ‘overwhelming evidence’.†They taped me saying it my way, and I emphasized to use that version instead. What did they do? They used the “overwhelming evidence†version. So they kinda screwed me over on those two things. They certainly taught me that I can’t read VO lines out loud before I’ve read them through silently first and then changed them on paper before reading them out loud. They’re showing us what they are capable of. They’re showing the whole cast how much we cannot trust them at all, as I’ve been saying from the beginning. " Matt Moneymaker
bipedalist Posted June 7, 2011 BFF Patron Posted June 7, 2011 ....Whos money is behind the BFRO? Wally, and i'm sure he has good lawyers whom could of gotten MM more control over these editing is.... Is Wally Hersom still the active supporter and active benefactor of the BFRO? I don't know. But yes the scenario above could provide the organization a "scosh" more control. Well I'm glad that at least MM says on his site that they ID'd it as a horse. There's a second or two before that clip gets cut where you could see the head turn to the left, lol. When we saw that segment all 3 of us said horse at the same time, LMAO! Paint, you and your buds got a future as consultants
Guest Crawdaddy Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 methane? Marsh Mud, now that has a smell. Gator Dens? Did not watch the show yet, but it is not like a gator lives in a nice big ole cave.
bfriendly Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 seriously, if you have ever been to florida there does not need to be a theory as to why a big hairy humanoid monster would stink to high heck with the heat and humidity in that place. No doubt brother!
Guest Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Production companies call that "creative artistic license" aka, it's my ball, my field, my bat, but we'll let you play. MM was fortunate to have been able to change the few lines he did. Their bottom line is viewership, ratings, and money. Still I'm glad the show was produced and I enjoyed it. I did a jaw drop at the methane and den info, looked at hubby and said "somebody's full of ****, that's made-up, MM is a person who is a little full of himself but he's no fool." Glad MM made the correction. If this show continues to be a ratings hit perhaps the production company will consider a few more episodes with MM or someone else, and that's the point where a little discussion on how to entertain the public, keep their interest, and remaining true to the subject can be accomplished without the need to spread misinformation. IMHO
Guest Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 A major error was made in claiming that the characteristic odor of a skunk ape is due to methane. Methane is an odorless gas. Natural gas is comprised mostly of methane. Because it has no smell is why odorants are added so we can smell a gas leak. This obvious error detracts substantially from the credibility of the series. Not a good way to come out of the chute. The error documents that BFRO is trying to come across as far more knowledgable than they are about the purported bigfoot. Caught that one too.... made me cringe. Turns out that the production company, were the ones who are making up the Bigfoot trivia questions and answers on the show. So we should be in for some more interesting Bigfoot trivia in shows to come.
Guest Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I got to throw this out there about something Matt claimed on the show. He mention something about he was the first to discover Bf's respond to calls and wood knocking? He started BFRO in 95 But we knew Bf's would respond to imitations in the early 70's. like when Sierra Sounds was recorded over 3-4 years and was released on tape in 74 by Ron Morehead. So he's claiming he knew and was doing this when he was a youngster, before then?, really John Green documented woodknocking as a bigfoot behavior in Sasquatch: The Apes Among Us in 1978.
Guest Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Unfortunately, MM did not have a lot of Control over the final editing............it appears AP producers are the ones who have screwed this up.............they are certainly NOT bigfoot enthusiasts and they "Thought" they were making it more entertaining How is misinformation entertaining? How is it entertaining not to wrap up the scene about the unknown large thermal image in the middle of the meadow? Matt is an attorney. Perhaps he should have thought about negotiating some degree of editorial control over the final product to protect the name of his organization. Perhaps he shouldn't have entered into an endeavor that allows producers to butcher the reputation of his organization.
Guest tracker Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 John Green documented woodknocking as a bigfoot behavior in Sasquatch: The Apes Among Us in 1978. Yea plus back up that date to when John learned it from others.
Guest Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) That methane is a colorless, odorless gas is Chem for Jocks 101-level knowledge. Oh No, Pter, It's called chem 100 for people who don't need the higher sciences, but must meet academic requirements to be able to play. Shhhh, it's a secret. Edited June 7, 2011 by SweetSusiq

" Matt Moneymaker That's really too bad, Matt. You guys and gal deserve better than what you have received. One problem with these shows that drives me crazy is that the researchers *Never Ever*are able to hang around at a good BF location for more then 2 or 3 days, if that long. One place where the researchers did hang out for a while was the Canadian fishing house that was trashed by a BF after it stepped on those nails at the front door. BTW, Those nails probably ended up killing the BF. However, Good evidence was collected IIRC. Edited June 7, 2011 by SweetSusiq
Guest Blackdog Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Matt is an attorney. Matt went to law school but he has not passed the bar. I don't know if he ever tried but I know he hasn't passed the bar anywhere. I guess it depends on what your definition of attorney is but as far as I know he is not.

I wonder if they are trying to make a joke out of the BFRO members? They should be trying to discover the BF species, not just throwing out inaccurate slam bang headlines that don't come to fruition, causing too much disappointment that the show *will* lose viewers, and that makes me really sad.. Matt being an attorney does not mean that he can't make a mistake by trusting someone..
