I remember that pelt now. I can't believe we've just let that thing languish for so long in a closet. Why haven't you contacted Loren? He can get these analyzed at no cost I believe.

Does anyone know what animals don't have an undercoat?

I read that the musk deer has no undercoat. They are from siberia from what I gather.

I live on a farm that has highland cattle. They have tanned a couple of hides. The hair is consistant with that density but not the color, although I have seen darker specimens than what are on this farm.

I"m just gonna throw this in the mix here for fun-

This crazy goat could be another possibility. I've mailed some hairs off to a member who volunteered to analyze them under a microscope and who has several North American animal samples as well as (I can't verify this) a BF hair for comparison.

We'll see.

Few (if any) forensic hair labs will be able to identify the hair by the scale pattern, the shaft/medulla ratio or the medulla itself because they have no certified Bigfoot hair specimen with which to make a comparsion. The lighter colored hair in the OP photograph could be from a Bigfoot, but if so, the best they will we able to say is : "The hair pattern exibited an imbricate scale pattern, uniform pimentation, a translucent amorphous medulla and significant diameter variation along its shaft. The hair was not consistent with any animals hair species in the XX XXX XXXX animal hair reference collection."

When the hair expert was asked if he was able to rule out either of the three primary racial groups based on established models for each group, his response was: "Looks mostly Caucasian and most likely not head hair". (The evidence at the location which the hair was retrieved indicate the BF hair was snagged on a fence barb from the buttocks area.)

I have one specimen of that hair mounted on a slide. The hair from a black BF will no doubt show that it nearly matches either the hair of a Mongoloid (Asian) or Negroid (African) Some of the black hairs are very difficult - and at times impossible - to evaluate under an optical microscope, and have been discounted as having been from a BF.

P.S. - There is a forensic lab that has an "Animal Hair Atlas" on a CD which they sell. Anyone interested can send me a PM and I will provide further info.
