Guest
I wonder why BF would even need protection? I tend to doubt people are gonna be out to bag a BF once they are deemed to actually exist by "science". If that even happens. IMHO, those who try to gun down a BF for fun, or, profit, fully deserve whatever negative fate awaits them. Don't worry about BF. They're way better at surviving, and, thriving, without our help. To MikeU, Thank you so much! I was asked by a Ketchum DNA expert insider to start a petition to protect them once the DNA is released. I agree that they are well able to protect themselves, we all know that, yet I fear every yahoo out there thinking "Oh Man, I need to add one of those" and then wishing he had never left home before he is torn to pieces should he actually hit one. Then we have Justin Smega who killed 2 and walked away. Who actually knows what could happen? I hope that people will leave them alone because I sincerely fear someone being hurt or killed trying to hunt a BF who is inexperienced and does not know what he is doing. Experienced hunters will be okay, possibly, it is the inexperienced hunters I am concerned about who may actually hit one and end up dead by the very BF they injured. As a human mother I am protective of my children, and I can only imagine how protective a BF mother could be. Yikes! I hope that people here will sign the petition to protect them from being hunted or trapped to protect *both* species, us humans and the Sasquatch. As soon I see the body, head, hand or foot. The petition is to the Federal govt. I think. Hello my friend, how are you doing? Yes, This petition is to the Federal Government to legally protect the Sasquatch from being hunted. They do have some human DNA, yet they are animals, but I would hate to see them legally being hunted once the world knows that they truly exist. Guest COGrizzly
Yer totally missing the point susie. Let me put it to you this way. The current animals that do have protection we see on tv shows and in zoos. Do I need to elaborate further?
Guest
BastetsCat Preserve habitat, okay I would sign for that.....but only if and when the protection of habitat includes balance. Susiq says: I agree with that. All we are trying to do is make it illegal to trap or kill a Sasquatch unless a human's life was at risk.
Guest
Unlike my counterparts in this thread, I will sign it now, but will rescind my support if and when the species is officially recognized by science.
Guest
SweetSusiq, Once they are established as existing, and, another form of human, I'm 100% certain a bill will be fast tracked through congress making the shooting of a BF a capital offense. When a body is finally presented to science, there will be zero doubt they are another form of human, and, shooting one will incur the same penaltys as shooting your neighbor. Unless it is done in self defense.

I was asked to do this, having no idea how to go about it, and in the middle of trying to write it up it suddenly"*self-published*". I had not edited it, nor finished trying to correctly word it, especially considering that I have never hunted anything ever. My family hunts, but I don't, so I'm writing about something that I know nothing about. All I would like to see is this species given protection from becoming "Game" animals, or being trapped somehow. I feel that they should be **Left Alone** and never captured for a Zoo FGS! They are mostly solitary, no communities, no written language,I think they are an animal, yet special, and should not be hunted. Guest
I'll sign it the second the species is recognized by science........and not a second before. I feel exactly the same way.
Guest OntarioSquatch
They have been avoiding people to the point where there still isn't a single type specimen. I seriously disagree with the notion that they will be in great danger once they are proven to exist. If anything, it might be ordinary people who need protection from the Sasquatch.</p>
chelefoot
I feel like when it was time to do the petition it should have been done correctly. If it did self published without being edited... Perhaps someone should have been called to withdraw it? Melba herself to the timing was "off". Surely you can see the reason for so many peoples hesitation. Guest VioletX
I am gonna stick my neck out and say that if there is some kind of proof of the existence of BF before the Feb 11th petition deadline, it is no skin off my back if I go ahead and sign it. From the way I read it there is no mention of habitat control or anything like that, just protection from harm. IMHO, people will want to harass or hunt BF even more so after discovery and yes, maybe their would be a law put into effect as soon as a body was presented, but just in case that takes a long time, I do not mind signing this. As for not putting them in zoo's etc, I feel that is a secondary issue that could be worked into whatever laws are put in place. (and we know only Ed and his team Quantra can imprison a BF anyhow...lol) Edited January 14, 2013 by VioletX

Hairy Man
There will be no need for any petition after science accepts the species to be real. There are already laws in place to protect rare species - it's called the Endangered Species Act. US Fish and Wildlife has the power to place bigfoot on that list after reviewing the DNA evidence. When is the DNA evidence going to be published SweetSusiq?

Hairy Man
It won't take long at all. Once the DNA is out in a peer reviewed journal, the scientific community as a whole will chime in. They will call on the USFWS to act. The USFWS has the ability to place a species on the protection list and then they are required to study the species to determine if they are truly rare, threatened, or endangered. If they find they are, they stay on the list. If they find they aren't, they come off the list. All species on the Endangered Species list are automatically protected from hunting and stiff penalties for violation of the act are already in place. There is no need to reinvent the wheel.
