Why would they NOT climb trees? Maybe they do it for the same reason that people climb mountains. Because they are there. Or maybe they do it so they can see what's over the hill. Or maybe they just do it for fun. There are lots of reasons to climb trees.

I think it's very likely it was him or her. But that's what's fun about staying in the same area over time. Over time, you learn more and more about the habits and behaviors of the individuals at that spot, and things that were mysterious occurrences earlier on become, in the light of what you learn about them as time goes by, more readily identifiable as having been the results of some action they took.
