Thanks for the link Norse. Bob is a great story teller. I'm familiar with the account of the "logs", followed by the critters high tailing it up the mountain side, but listening to his first hand account gave me the feeling of being there, and describing their actions when busted as Keystone Cops with one bumping into the other, priceless!

Interesting picture Bigtex. The parts that I can tell are branches look like bark. But that one area does look like fur. It's sure an odd shape. And yes I intend to do measurements and a side by side comparison and will post what I find here.

I'm not sure whether to reply or not. I don't want to be the wet blanket at the party. However ... maybe someone should. I don't think the measures have any value. They might if we were only talking about dumb wildlife. We're not. We're talking about something deliberately, consciously adapting its behavior to changes in our behavior. Sometimes even anticipating them and beating us to the draw. The assumptions built into the question are false ... invalid ... making the connection assumed between the measure and the answer irrelevant. I don't believe you can do science in such a situation, I think it is as Thom Powell said, the best you can hope for is to gather intel. We are not gaining intel on an intelligent species while we chase the stupid monkey we imagine exists. MIB

Yes, and when they 'spill the beans', they are dubbed crazy. There are plenty of former gov't employees, loggers, miners, etc that come forward with this sort of stuff......It's just that it's easier for everyone to mock them and call em crazy.
