^^^^ A year or three ago a long time member went sort of ... bonkers ... necro-posting vacuous addenda to a great many long-silent threads. In addition to getting banned, he caused the mods / admins to lock inactive threads to avoid more of this. If you have something relevant to add to a locked thread, pm the admins / mods and they'll re-open the thread for you. It's not a detriment to engagement or a problem for serious researchers unless they are just too lazy to send a PM and too impatient to wait for our overworked VOLUNTEER staff to take care of it. It is not just super lenghty threads, all threads appear to become locked after a certain period of time. It is a very restrictive policy that disinvites engagement rather than encourages it. My guess is mods wish to reduce overhead of blocking trolls so it is a trade off.2 points

Want to mention some facts about BF's movements as they relate to the South/Southeastern states. Typically, when it's normal weather, they will leave their bedding area about an hour before dark, and move as slow as molasses, stopping dead still every few yards looking forward and listening. Numerous witnesses have watched them from elevated hunting stands and say that they remain so motionless in open woods with some under story brush and small trees that they just seem to disappear from view. I personally believe they depend as much on their ears as they do on their eyes for detecting movement of people or other animals. When it gets dark or very close to it, and they intend to join others to hunt, they will start, or respond to the "gathering calls" of others of their kind. Basically clock time to them is immaterial, its the time darkness falls which determines their movements in the evening. Their movements during the day time hours - and days of the week - may be related to one or many other factors they have no control over. One of the most common conditions that causes them to move more frequently during the day is the very hot summers and drought years that have plagued the South/ Southeast many times in recent years. It is a dead certainty that during such periods the individuals and family groups establish bedding areas within just a few minutes walking distance of fresh water, when possible, a cold water spring will be their first choice. Many times the animals have had to move as individuals and family groups because of the commencement of the clear cutting or controlled burns of large tracts of land on private lands or in the National Forests. (Timber companies actually own the land and harvest the timber off of huge tracts inside National Forests.) Such work typically is done Monday through Friday, and Bigfoot families will not remain in those areas, although individuals (most likely males) may slip in to watch the action from cover and from a distance. For some reason, they are known to be interested and curious about the work of humans; from their construction of homes in remote areas, cutting and moving timber, or watching people on tractors making food plots for deer and turkey. A friend of mine called me by cell phone one day about three years ago to tell me that he was using a tractor, disk and seed spreader along a river in central AR. He said he was being watched from one part of an adjoining pine thicket by a female Bigfoot "with the prettiest red, shiny hair I've ever seen!" He said the animal would partially hide each time he turned the tractor in her direction, so he pulled his cap down low and slightly bowed his head so he could hide his eyes a little and watched her until he finished the small food plot. He has seen more Bigfoot than I, and spent WAY more time than I in those river bottoms.2 points

It appears that we have hit a lull in the interest surrounding sasquatch or bigfoot, it is not that hard to figure out the why? Finding Bigfoot may have not been the favorite of those versed in the subject, but it brought necessary attention to the matter. So many shows and investigations were spawned by that effort, and plentgy of people became aware of the creatures existence as the result, or at least hypothesized about the matter. Today we are quickly shuffling all that under the rug and moving on in our rationale sort of manner. We could have a large meteor bearing down on us and do the same thing, it is all a matter of the ho hum every day attitude that man cannot seem to overcome. Until we have the meteor in sight we will most likely ignore its possible collision with our reality. Sasquatch will not be a matter of concern until it is right in the face of people...That is also true of other matters man ignores freely, for instance death.1 point

This is my favorite area where I backpack into to go squatching. The forest is thick and not easy to get through. There are several very secluded ponds in the same area and you have to bushwhack to get to most. These three are my favorite and the ones I keep going back to. The bottom picture is my new backpack. I have six or seven, including a McHale, and this is by far my favorite. It's a Seek Outside Revolution Fortress that has a 125-liter capacity, weighs only 4lbs 2oz and can carry 125-150lbs. A dream to carry.1 point

Roger that Gigantor. The data points are only as good as the information collected from the witnesses, no doubt. If what we have achieves the objective as you outlined, it is good enough. And absolutely Redbone, if you wanted to refine this data further, you better be prepared to do some grunt work, which is why I preemptively quashed my volunteering to do that!1 point

Some of us are just satisfied that Sasquatch "exists" and we are content with that knowledge based on personal evidence. The battle to let others know the details sometimes is fraught with unintended consequences. Still I hazard to let others know that I know but am a little more careful in my discussions. Beyond that it is a rather fruitless effort to try to convince anyone with the current status of things. Note: Older threads are often locked due to the sheer volume of responses, making second and third threads is thought to help with the search functions and moving about the thread I think. At first, I was concerned it seemed to slow down the flow of hot threads so your mileage may vary.1 point

Well said. No question FB and YouTube in particular has increased the mockery factor. Far too many rubes who are not swift enough to tell the difference with good and bad research. Though YT certainly has value, you can waste time searching for gems. The reality shows have always been a joke with a few notable exceptions. I found Killing Bigfoot to be the best of the bunch. The speed with which they were able to make contact puts the pretenders in Moneymakers' wheel spinning operation to shame. They are all millionaires though as a result of his show coming up completely empty handed so who is laughing. As for Killing Bigfoot, the real value is unatapped. What would need to happen next is to firmly identify the links between crypto creatures and BF. It is right there to be found in that deep south location which is a different strain of BF than the species in the northern regions. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution to help filter out the nonsense but I liked your post. I would add a note to moderators here that locking older posts on this forum is counter productive to encouraging serious researchers. I am guessing someone has the idea of locking threads to prevent trolling. Though, good research never dies and it should be acknowledged that people do use this forum as a research resource through the search feature (myself included). It is not always practical to start new threads, especially for new users or people simply wishing to add a worthwhile comment to someone's diligent research buried in a lengthy thread.1 point

I was not planning to jump in here but watching this conversation unfold has urged me on. It's senseless to worry about DST with this data and probably futile to attempt to measure differences hour by hour. The problem here is the accuracy of the thousands of reports that went into this. BFRO doesn't demand accurate time of day information. Most of the time we'll get 'afternoon' or even 'night time" and we're left to guess what that means when entering the data. As much as possible, we use an educated guess to portray what we have as accurately as possible. Still, you get what you get. I'd never count on these reports to give an extremely accurate view of 7:20 vs 8:20 pm. Daylight savings time introduces no more error than what is already there. Many report don't even really specify a month. We get "summer" or "fall" at sundown and now we have to guess twice. If you need more accurate information to pursue a hypothesis, you will need a way to weed out all that contain guess work and only view reports that give exact time. Good luck with that... Don't ask me to go through 5000 reports (again) trying to flag those down for you.1 point

I did. The +/- 1 hour adjustment does not matter in order to show that the animal is nocturnal. Further, it does not matter in order to show that there are more sightings between 9pm and 4am when people are normally asleep; thus, eliminating the possibility that the pattern is due to normal human activity. In other words, there are more sightings at night when camping, driving and fishing because of the animal's behavior. Adjusting for DST is no biggie programmatically, it's just not necessary.1 point

^^^ Now, now Counselor. We all know you have a vested interest in getting the stats to show a 2am increase in events. And technically you are correct, but we're not tracking satellites here... A +-1 hour difference has little impact for our purposes. All we need to show is that the animal is nocturnal and the sightings are not due to regular human activity.1 point

I went last year and it was my first conference. I had a blast. I'm going again this year too. I don't have much to compare it to because I had never gone to one before but I enjoyed almost all the speakers and loved hanging out in the vendor's area and picked up a foot cast. I'm not super familiar with some of the speakers that are going to be there this year but I know Seth Breedlove and enjoy his movies so I'm looking forward to seeing him and Lyle Blackburn.1 point
