My own theory on the variety of noises they make is their chest cavity is enormous and they take advantage of it to create their own methods of communication. They clearly have powerful vocal chords in addition to a dynamic range of "speech" which varies considerably across the species.1 point

And you raise a good point MIB....mDNA vs. nDNA, and the presumption they will test out to be the same species. I'd say I'd be astounded if they were not, but then again... (Let's not drag Dr. K into this though :-) ) Something just really tweaks my ire about a group discussion dedicated, I'm told, to the exploration of an unexplained phenomena but which considers something well within the experience of documented science to be too far "out there" to seriously discuss. You don't know.. thus the "unexplained" part. If I were here saying I think the BF species can levitate, time-travel or shape-shift, it would be one thing. I'm only hypothesizing the BF genome may be entirely so close to our own that a sample might be getting confused as human. If you disagree, fine and dandy. Just don't tell me you "know" that is not possible, because there is plenty of good science that anyone can point to that will flatly contradict that.1 point

No its not. Dog breeds are specialized creatures that rely on their masters for survival. Not nature. If you turn either of those breeds out in nature? The wolf pack would reject them..... ask me how I know this. And more importantly the Mastiff is no BIGGER than the Timber Wolf. So Man was able to select and breed characteristics than made dog breeds smaller.....but not bigger than the original natural breed which was a Wolf. So I really so not even know how your domesticated bog breed analogy has ANYTHING to do with the subject at hand. Both Humans and Bigfeet are not domesticated pets. Nature made us this way. And NO HUMAN is 8 ft tall AND 800 lbs AND still runs down his dinner. Your point is moot.1 point

I suspect this will eventually be true, but it isn't yet. For species identification, only a few key locations within the genome are tested .. and this is done with mitochondrial DNA, not nuclear DNA. The separation of human from chimp, for example, is determined by just a few known differences. If bigfoot is closer to human than chimp, it may well be an exact match **on the tested locations** despite having significant other differences. In other words, we're not going to know for sure until someone has a reliable enough bigfoot DNA sample and a big enough checkbook to have the mt DNA fully mapped despite the superficial appearance of contamination. Admittedly speculative, but I'm inclined to think it will not be until the analysis proceeds somewhat beyond what is normally necessary to separate human from other DNA that differences will start to become apparent. At that point, the test for human will have to be revised to eliminate markers shared with sasquatch and vice versa. MIB1 point

I don't have a dog in this fight, so to speak. Genetically speaking, I haven't enough knowledge to rest on the head of a pin so I'll stay away from that except to ask--Has there ever been an instance where two closely-related mammals have been found to have identical DNA? For example, chimps and bonobo sure look alike to me but are not identical genetically. They share 99.7% but there is a difference nevertheless. My best guess (and pure speculation) is a sasquatch will have nearly identical DNA to humans, and probably closer than anything else, but the genetic difference will be quantifiable and unlike any other mammal.1 point

Rhythmic means with a constant beat or tempo. Heart beat tempo is in the low 70s for humans. I suspect BF would be considerably slower. And I have never heard of anyone claiming to hear their heartbeat even when they were close enough to touch tents etc. Meldrum talks about the large apes making rhythmic sounds with their mouths. That or chest thumping could be what people are hearing. When they are in their stealth mode, you can hear footsteps. The one I cornered I could hear footsteps in twos or threes as it moved tree to tree trying to stay behind tree cover. It was a soft low pitched thudding sound. So what QE was hearing might have been that, like Hiflier said, foot stomping. Absent dry underbrush breaking a following BF (very common report) could have been making the dull thudding of footsteps as it followed the kids. In the field, once I got tuned into that sound, that thudding sound is a sure sign they are present out of sight. The best way to describe it is the infra-sound like sound that large rock in a fast running stream makes when it moves the rocks and knocks them together. Low thuds right at the bottom limit of my hearing. Next time you are around a fast moving stream with a lot of large rock listen for that.1 point

You THEORY is so outlandish and not based on any facts/science at all. Might as well have been in the paranormal section. What's baffling is that you actually believe what you spent all day saying yesterday. But, to each their own!1 point

True. You could say our chase is easier than theirs in the respect to vastness of the wilderness. ...thanks for the pics, I guess.1 point

It is the same chase in Russia/Siberia as it is anywhere, very difficult, especially with their vast terrain. The comment about mating with one brought to mind Robert Crumb. I remember reading his comics, including the ones about his female sasquatch fantasies. He was a very deranged man but his art and humor really resonated in the 70s.1 point

Hiflier, the problem I see with assuming these nests are of human origin is the fact that that is what they look like... nests. The norm for sleeping pads or beds used by humans in survival situations are rectangular. Something that would fit under a lean-to, be it a tarp or tree boughs. In this part of the country if you don't cover your sleeping area fully you end up wet from rain running into it. Good way to end up hypothermic. What I'm saying is this type of sleeping arrangement is counterproductive to a human survival situation.1 point

Thats no deer.... The eyes are too close together. What it is? No idea. It has a high forehead. Like a dude in a Ape mask.1 point

If you cannot see that differences matter? Because a single trait could be shared between two seperate species? For example, Gorillas and Humans have ten fingers and ten toes?( Raccoons have ten fingers and ten toes for God sakes....) Then we cannot discuss the nuances of this subject....... because you are BLIND. And stop hiding behind the ignorance of humanity from 200 years ago! Its not even remotely germane to the topic at hand! Patty was buck ass naked at bluff creek. No gourds or ornaments anywhere! (Or what we now understand as the trappings of humanity!) She might as well been a Bear! Your unwittingly proving my point for me. Because not only is Bigfoot morphologically distinct from Homo Sapiens? They are also behaviorally distinct from Homo Sapiens as well..... I.e. They dont manufacturer stone tools, use fires, etc. Of course none of this matters to you, because you simply take your belief its a human framed in some weird Imperialistic guilt? And work backwards! If Sasquatch was making spears, lighting fires, living in caves and wearing skins? And averaged 6 foot tall and 200 lbs? I would be agreeing with you they would be very close cousins of ours. Dont forget the penis gourds......of course. What do we actually witness? ZIP, ZILCH, NADA. And 8 ft tall and 800 lbs. Sure...... its uncle Bob! Im out!1 point

Again. My decision to shoot one is not based on what I think it is. My decision to shoot one is based on the exasperation of failed returns. Men kill other men all the time. The largest expediture in our nations government is dedicated to killing our own species..... not others. I do not wish to be a murderer. But if there is a 8ft tall 800lbs Ape man running around our woods? People have a right to know. And the most expedient method is the right one. If some other method like DNA accomplishes that? Then I applaud it and will hang up the rifle concerning this species. Big deal? A Gorilla has all of the traits you listed! So I guess that makes Gorillas and Humans the same species in your eyes right?! You dont seem to grasp that the devil is in the details. Bigfoot has two hands, two feet, two eyes, teeth, two nostrils and mammary glands.........there fore? Homo Sapien! Show me a Homo Sapien that leaves naked tracks in deep snow at 5000 ft in winter. Show me a Homo Sapien that breaks the neck of full grown Elk by pulling on its chin. Show me a Homo Sapien that is 8 feet tall and 800 lbs. Show me a Homo Sapien that looks like Patty. Its all subjective until its proven to exist. But it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see where the evidence is pointing.1 point

Here's a juvieprint that I posted recently, but didn't tell the story......I found several great prints in and around a creek pool, and after I took the one nice print pic, the owner of the pool came out and was quite aggressive, dang near bit my foot! Anyway, you can see more prints in the mud around the Snapping Turtle, was going to go back and take more pics the next day as there were some great prints in there, but it started raining and didn't stop for weeks, flooding, no sign of it now or Mr. Snapping Turtle. Yeah, he was pretty big & mean!1 point
