There are 4067 incidents in John Green's database, at least in the spreadsheet I have. According to Bobbie Short, there may have been 4207 by 2001. Only 1066 of them are in our SSR database. It's a huge job to add them, so don't expect completion any time soon. See progress here. Many people were keeping track of reports prior to BFRO. It's just that you find these incidents in books instead of websites. Here is an example: Bigfoot Casebook, by Janet and Colin Bord, published in 1982. Here are some more... I pray for something like that to happen. It will either end in discovery or Norse bits scattered through the Fir.3 points

I have experienced the metal type sounds during an event, I have heard what sounds like steel poles being pulled over concrete, I have heard what sounded like a tin car door slamming ( jeep, geo ) in an area with ZERO cars around and I have heard what sounds like a tin can being thrown at a tree. I will share a fascinating story ( it is long but related to the metal sounds ) I was told by a partner/friend who remains in western WA at this time. I have spoke with him and the other fellow who was present for the experience several times and each time I think about the event it is just blows my mind. Both of these men are intelligent, aware and knowledgeable on all subjects and I trust them and their interpretation of the events as accurate. I may be missing some details or have a small detail miss placed but I will recall to the best of my knowledge. I believe this took place in February of 2012 at a research site in Lewis county of Washington state, my friend Kirk and his friend Bill had decided to visit an area that has been long known for activity to stay the night and see what happened. They went up to an old pit still gravel site to try and escape the onset of weather ( this area has always had activity ), they setup camp and bundled up to fight the cold. This gravel pit is about 65 yards long by 40 yards wide and the camp is in the bottom at a depth of about 12 to 14 feet. The pit kind of eats into the side of a plateau, the road skirts up and around to the back of the pit and continues on. Bill brought his truck mounted camper and Kirk setup to cramp all of his 6 '1 frame in his little 03 chevy tracker for the night. They stayed up for a while around a fire and the wind was blowing hard with a heavy wind chill, the temp that night was around 24 degrees or so. They grew tired of fighting the cold wind and decided to call it a night, they put out the fire and crawled in for the night until around 2 am Kirk woke up to a loud knock. It was so loud it startled him awake, the wind had died down but he sort of blew it off as something breaking and started to drift back to sleep but suddenly heard another loud bang coming from up on the left side of ledge of the gravel pit just up slope. He laid there listening for a few minutes and suddenly began hearing what sounded like a tin soup can or coffee tin being tapped on, it was without cadence or timing, just moments of constant tapping. The sound was coming from the same location of the second knock, it would go on and then stop for a few moments then continue for 30 seconds then stop for a minute at a time. This went on for several minutes then stopped for another length of time, suddenly the sound started again but this time it had moved about 15 yards closer along the rim of the gravel pit. The sound then began moving down from the rim to the bottom in camp and started circling the car, at this time Kirk is VERY awake and rather concerned. He told me that the inside of the car had frosted on all the windows do to breathing and the cold temps so he could not see anything, this thing suddenly stopped banging on the can and began touching the car, and then began tapping on the car for just a few moments then it fell quiet for several minutes. What Kirk did not know is that this animal left from his car to go over and explore around Bill's camper, Bill told me he woke up to the camper getting shoved, he is a side sleeper and the rocking was so hard that it rolled him onto his face and he woke up freaked out as his camper was rocking, for a split second he thought the wind was insane but it became clear that this was not the case as the thing stopped and then went around to the other side of the camper. The shaking stopped and the creature left Bill's camper and had now returned to Kirk's car and it began to start tapping on the car and putting weight against the car and moving it. It started going to the back of the car where Kirk had a bag of camping equipment on top of his car ( tent bags, cables, rope, bags, lighter and instant logs ), started grabbing and moving the bag off the top of the car, the sound stopped and then he heard the zipper running back and forth at a high rate of speed for several seconds. It was quiet for about a minute then the thing began bumping and tapping the car once again and by this time Kirk was completely unnerved and could not take any more so he set of the car lights, the horn and started screaming and pounding on the car to scare it off. The thing took off crashing up the slope and over the ledge and dropped into a ravine where it let out a loud whoop and it was gone, seconds after that Bill jumped out of the camper in his long johns with his light mounted AR15 and began sweeping the area, Kirk by this time exited the car with his light and they both started looking around the camp to make sure it was not still around. The noted that the bag had been removed from the roof and set on the ground with about half of the contents removed neatly next to the bag, they went over to the camper as Bill was explaining to Kirk what he heard and they found that the thing had gotten into a tub behind the camper also and opened the contents for examination. Bill did not hear this happen and was not aware until he walked Kirk over to the camper. They stayed awake for several hours talking about the experience with one eye over each shoulder. This event was one of the most interesting experiences I have heard told in person, in my opinion this thing was using some kind of tin can to try and find out if people where present or awake before coming in and investigating/testing the cars. That takes a high degree of planning, and tactical execution. This creature knew that people could be a danger so it came up with a plan to test the situation in escalating steps, first the general area and then each car individually with the tapping and rocking.3 points

Why not? If you still think it’s 1880? Then we might as well hang it up. Are Indians vaccinated today? Absolutely. They receive free health care. Top to bottom. 2020. Hello? There IS NO scientific data about Sasquatches on anything..... that’s my point! And there never will be as long as they remain a MYTH.3 points

Once I heard what sounded like tent rods, the hollow aluminum? ones bang together at close range in the woods out of sight. I found it odd that someone would be banging these together as my dog and I passed. Random backwoods campers that bang tent rods. There are the knights who say Ni!, So why not the wooks who bang tent rods? Ya know those ww 2 crank sirens? I heard one of those in the morning come off the forested mountain behind my home. It went up in pitch, then down and cut off abruptly. The reverb tailed for about a second. As it climbed in pitch it sounded mechanical but as the sound fell in pitch, not so much. It did it just once. I'm callin' squatch. This thing was loud!1 point

I've heard howls and barks that had a metallic sound, that were mixed with obvious BF howls. Also, the most confusing ones, sounded like someone was ripping sheets of metal from a building & throwing them on a concrete floor. The sounds went on from just after dark until just before daylight for about 3 nights. I thought it was coming from across the railroad to the southwest, but there was nothing in that direction that it could have been. Finally, I went outside, to try to be sure of the direction. Turned out that it was coming from the little patch of woods about a hundred yards behind the house. No metal anywhere near there.1 point

Hiflier I respect you passion and an organized effort to get science off its butt to study bigfoot is needed. What if some of us joined your coordinated effort. You give us email addresses, some facts to put in the letters, and we write to those in the universities and state wildlife departments. Norseman can can join in and continue to hunt and maybe get lucky and bring in a dead one.1 point

You have this knack for making enemies of friends. Dunno why? Im definitely about the crosshairs, because I’m a hunter and that’s what I can bring to the table. Does a plumber or electrician only own one tool? As I’ve stated a million times before? We all have our own gifts. And that’s Ok. The real cancer isn’t whether a dead body or DNA will solve the issue. I would rejoice if DNA beats me to it. Perfect. The real cancer is the mindset that everything is fine, and they should never be “discovered”. Which means there is a real chance the species just goes quietly into the night. A close second is that we should prove they exist but only by X method. Because we don’t agree with Y or Z method. I don’t ignore you. I’ve taken exception to something you have said. If you can make the government confess or find eDNA? Great! As far as “not coming back until I find success”? The great thing about pointing the finger at someone? Is that four are pointing back at you..... A non sequitor? If science brings its full weight to bear on contamination issues? You think that’s the same thing as ignoring the problem? The problem lies with a species considered a myth. Vaccinations are not available to ghosts and goblins. Sorry. Your making no sense what so ever. It’s like your arguing that wild Indians are better off with a small pox epidemic because any modern solution makes them less wild. And people call me cruel.1 point

In a political environment where one can carry whatever "guns" one would like (like my home in Alaska), I have found that the best "arsenal" is: 1) A rifle 2) A defensive sidearm 3) A 22 revolver 4) And a flare gun The defensive handgun, unlike the others, should be carried upon one's body at all times unless in a sleeping bag (and then it should be within reach or in the bag with you). The reason is because you never know when you will finally need it to defend your life, surprise encounters with adversaries can happen at any time, and wise potential predators can be expected to use the element of surprise against you. Therefore the defensive sidearm should be as light and handy as possible, yet as powerful as needed to fight your way to safety or to your rifle, which is vastly more powerful than a good defensive sidearm. The S&W 500 is simply too big, heavy, and cumbersome to carry as a reasonable defensive handgun. Even if backpacking, and thus not able to carry both a rifle and defensive sidearm, a smaller, lighter handgun still fills the needs of a defensive firearm. Both a 44 magnum revolver and a 10mm semiautomatic project enough energy and firepower to stop, redirect, or buy time against an attack by a large North American predator. However, if one cannot take the rifle, the S&W 500 would serve as well as the 44 mag or 10mm. It would just be a bit heavier cumbersome, and expensive..........especially to feed ammo to it. The rifle both features more energy than handguns and effective, accurate range. The 22 revolver provides the ability to effectively deal with vermin and opportunistic small game meals, and the flare gun provides both signaling capability as well as last resort predator defense. That's right, Larry Kaniut, who has published at least four books on Alaska bear attacks, has discovered that every use of a flare gun to defend against a bear attack that he discovered during the course of his research resulted in a successful and immediate spend of the attack. I believe he found four such cases, all accidental or happenstance events. Olin, who manufactures the most popular civilian flare guns, actually markets bear flares specifically designed to use against animal attack. The flare guns are plastic (in order to conform to federal firearm laws, since they use 12 gauge projectiles) which makes the very light. The gun and flares therefore, are mostly bulk, not heft. Since most of my wilderness travels are by a vehicle of some sort, carrying all my gear is not much of a problem. If I'm packing everything, I'll either take only the rifle or only the defensive sidearm, nd possibly both, depending on the primary purpose of my trip. Oh.......Thank God and the American Founding Fathers for the right as a free man to carry whatever firearms I desire or need. This is the only real estate on Earth where one can do so, and the political and legal class are working hard to end that here as well.1 point

Or not. Read the entire report. I think there's something else going on with this response and your entire thread about talking with family. There are notes from the investigation at the bottom of the report. @bipedalist I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 stars, but I've not read all of the BF literature out there. The WV angle specifically interested me. I do most of my reading online...mostly here.1 point

I do not understand the common wealth. The basic premise of a hand gun is self preservation. It’s a very defensive orientated firearm. So by denying their citizens the right to carry a sidearm is to deny them of the fundamental right for self preservation. Anyhoo.... Ive owned a DE .50 AE. Very powerful, and very heavy. I found it defeating of the idea of a handgun. It rode on my hip on day one. Day two it hung off the saddle horn and by day three it was in a saddle bag. So what was the difference between it and a rifle riding in a scabbard? Zero. A pistol should be small, light and a constant comfortable companion. Like your wallet, watch or car keys. If it’s not? Your gonna find a excuse to leave it behind. If it’s not skookum enough for the job? Bring a long gun. The hot ticket item now is a Glock 10mm. I converted my 1911 to 460 Rowland. I find striker fired plastic pistols to have squishy yucky triggers. My 1911 is crisp and I shoot it better.1 point

Interesting rock. Did it appear to be hollowed out by humans? Any tool marks? Or is it some sort of very large geode? Most fires are carelessness or stupidity. I accidently set a couple of fires when I was a kid. One was a homemade rocket that blew up. The poor grasshopper crewman did not make it. The other time I was cooking a potato just to see if I could. Chock those up to youthful stupidity. But embers can fly a long way even if you are careful. My county shuts down burning before the state does.1 point

I've done nothing but camp, in the safety of my 23' travel trailer, in squatchy places. Can I have an opinion and participate here? I'm actually sort of floored this is coming from you. If I read your message incorrectly, I apologize.-1 points

But you won't lift a finger to help make that rejoicing happen? That makes no sense. I agree with ALL methods, Norseman. But e-DNA is a tool that is available now, along with guns, so why not incorporate it? It's the lack of interest in the use of e-DNA that keeps it in the realm of not being deployed in the field to look specifically for Bigfoot. Plenty of guns already out there doing just that. Need proof? People get shot and shot at because someone thinks they are Bigfoots. E-DNA doesn't kill or wound anyone. Hunters and non-hunters alike can take samples, and since hunters are already out there, why not get trained to collect samples? I don't get the "I'm a hunter and that's all I'll do" mentality. You see, people won't take samples themselves, but they won't try and see if anyone in academia will take samples either. But boy, tote a gun around the forest hoping for a self-defense situation? Yep, no problem. Please explain to me what kind of logic that serves? Academia is best equipped to tackle this subject. Dr. Krantz was the perfect anthropologist: He was a scientist who did the work, AND he carried a rifle. LOL, government confess? Get the government to find DNA? Did you just seriously say that? Don't get me wrong here. This isn't about NOT killing the creature. If you, or anyone else, brings one in first? Great! It's not even about anyone actually taking samples from the field themselves. It's about writing a measly little email and asking someone in science to do and explaining why. Good grief, you'd think I was asking people to climb Mt. Everest for how the responses come across. It's an email for pete's sake!!!! I do it all the time, it's easy, and not one has anyone come knocking on my door for all the fear I see of that happening. Ok, done with the rant. It probably won't be the last time. But then I think everyone pretty much knows that by now. The worrisome part of it is, you all know I'm right. Science needs to be on this. I saw where everyone was all excited recently over a new species of bird. A BIRD! http://www.sci-news.com/biology/alor-myzomela-07665.html I wonder how much money science spent on THAT? Gimme a break. What about a 700 lbs. North American primate??!!? Science needs our voice.-1 points
