  1. Goes to show that by the participation of the Primatologist. Even science is in to hoaxing. No wonder they don't trust others. Apply that to the news also.

  4. Congrats on the calf, Norseman, looks like it's got a nice coat going for itself and mom is looking, good too. Saw a three-week old foal myself a couple of days ago at a friend's farm. Anther one coming in about a month.

  5. Fed this morning and discovered the first calf of the year! I then took a drive over to Sullivan lake and Boundary dam. The boat launch is open at the dam. The pend oreille river is mainly free of ice. Sullivan lake on the other hand is iced in hard. It snowed on me and was socked in good. Not alot of pictures opportunities.

  6. I can't even begin to say just how creepy this sounds . If it was a man in my opinion it's even more disturbing . To have all this happen while sleeping in your car is very very unsettling to say the least. I hope you go armed .

  7. I cannot recall if they said the forest was National, State, or Private. Permits may have been involved too as they seem to have a definite ending date. . They went from hoofing it everywhere to driving an ATV to get around on the last episode. Was that a cast request or simply because they are running out of time? I fully expect the most active areas in the country my not correlate with sighting reports. There are places in Washington State that have to be excellent habitat but I have no idea how to get into them other than bush whacking 20 or 30 miles through heavy timber because of lack of vehicle access. These areas could have dense BF presence but no one can get there to see them. My gut feeling is that there are actual BF villages in some very remote places.

  8. Self aggrandizement abounds in this field. Go to any of the festivals or conferences related to this subject that have popped up in recent years. It's a lot of lonely people who have found a place to belong. They gather to name-drop and to hint at forbidden knowledge that they are unable to share. They really strive for exclusivity, but outsiders can someday get access....for a price. Eh. They are all adults and can spend their time and money as they wish. Good for them for finding others to share their passion. I have just always found it a bit cringey that a whole area of interest that by definition is populated by those who are looked at as outsiders by normal society should themselves strive so hard for exclusive cliques. I guess that is just human nature.

  9. Bison were natural prey for the grizzlies. Also remember, elk were plains-dwellers until driven into the mountains.

  10. Remember that the mad dash westward with wagon trains of folks started in 1849 with the California Gold Rush. The really big changes came after that. The Lewis and Clark journals, filled with amazing stuff, were most amazing to me regarding grizzly bears, which they didn't even know existed in 1805. Moreover, when the Mandan Sioux told them about the bears, they wrote things in their journals belittling the Sioux about their fanciful tales. But well before arriving at the continental divide, Lewis wrote that he'd rather face 20 Indian warriors than one of those damned bears again. In fact, Lewis got shot in the ass by one of his men during a dust up with a bear on an island in the Missouri River that they stayed on one night particularly because they thought it would keep them from the bears.
