  1. P-G is probably a real catch in the Sasquatch dating pool. Tall, has a good job... Just what a young Sasquatchette wants to take home to meet Mama.

  3. Hello everyone, I've been interested in Sasquatch legends and research for a long time now. I grew up in a part of Manitoba where there have been several sightings and the possibility of Sasquatch existing has always intrigued me. I've read Dr. Meldrum's book on "Legend meets Science" and follow many You-tubers who discuss Sasquatch videos. The fact that First Nations (American Indians) just accept their existence as self-evident as powerful to me. I've had no direct experience despite fishing, hiking, and camping a lot and I'm looking forward to reading more and possibly contributing if at all possible. Derwin

  4. Glad you are OK. I swear by my inReach. I started out with a month by month plan, but I ended up using it so much, I just went with a yearly plan. I have not had any issues with it here in Alaska. Oddly enough, the only place I had issues getting a signal was in Stevens County Washington. I was in a very thickly wooded area and had a hard time getting a signal. It would work, but generally only on the logging roads, away from the trees. Earlier this year, I had gone back into and area during breakup and drove through a mud hole, and ended up knocking a hole in my radiator, luckily, it held until I got back to civilization until it began to leak. Had to get a new radiator installed. First time my little "hobby" has cost me money (aside from equipment).

  6. A favorite found-footage movie is Troll Hunter. Bears substitute for trolls in this gem.

  8. A great point. My afore mentioned granddaughter does a great James Fay howl and does tree knocks along the trails we frequent. Even got a call back once. Of course it was probably a person.

  9. Hoping everyone had a great Christmas, and wishing you a Happy New Year! Exciting news for me....an old family friend finally came clean with some Hairyman activity. His family has a 4000 acre ranch, been in their family a long time, lotta hardwoods, no hunting, and set up as a private natural reserve. Anyway, they have Elk on the property and a few of the males die each year during the rut from fighting, dead on the ground one day, gone the next.....no trace or drag marks, clearly being carried off. My buddy went out at dusk recently to inspect a dead Elk, he just wants to be sure there aren't any sign of poaching. While inspecting the animal, he was overcome with fear, then heard movement in the nearby brush. He whipped out his camera with thermal capabilities, and got a nice video, and shows a large animal crouched down on all 4 legs, get up on 2 and run off. I'll be heading there in a few weeks to do several days of camping:)

  10. What an absolutely great experience to share on this forum! For a bunch of outdoors people, this experience is inevitable. If I had a nickel for every time this type of thing happened to me, I'd buy Jeff Bezos. The Christmas Eve twist to it makes it even more memorable for your family. My favorite quotes of this thread: Untrue. This is life. God bless your precious Mrs. Norse! She and Mrs. Huntster could sit by the fire and share great stories! Wives of adventurers have a special stock of prayers. Many of my misadventures were before the cell phone era. She threatened to call the Troopers upon tardiness, sometimes who were personal friends. I got real good at getting out myself before I was tardy. LOL! So true! And after setting up with the best self extraction equipment available, the rig will then simply break down, requiring parts or tools you don't have. That's a great ending to the story. All the best to you and your family!

  11. BRB, at that price, how can anyone be out in the woods without one. I had no idea about what these recorders could do. You've opened up my world to a new tool. Thank you!! I've spend a fair amount of time watching YT videos that review and critique the GoPro, Akaso, Yi, Insta360, DJI, and more. When they mount two or three cameras next to each other and go out on a walk, run, or ride you can see subtle differences in various recorders. I'll bet if you showed me a video on its own, I would have no idea which recorder company it came from I think the 5K ability could be helpful if you record something and need to zoom in on it. It will have more detail. Otherwise, you can't see the difference in a video between 5K and 4K. With that said, there is one feature on the GoPro 9 (not 8 or 7), that I can't find on any other recorder, which could be a game changer for me. It is akin to a feature on my SONY PCM-M10 audio recorder. The GoPro 9 allows you to continuously record to a either a 15-second or 30-second buffer. Let's say I'm walking along and a sasquatch darts across a trail in front of me and disappears into the woods. I probably couldn't react in time to get it recorded. With the GP9, I could hit the record button and if I had chosen a 30-second buffer, the actual recording would begin 30 seconds prior to the time I hit the record button. In my example, I would get the sasquatch on film. Is that feature alone worth an extra $300++? I don't know, that's a big difference. I'll wait until mid-March to see if other companies add that feature to their recorders and make a decision then. I do want to be ready in early April to hit the woods for a prolonged time period. Here is a YT video where I learned of that feature, cued to the start of the discussion. https://youtu.be/Q1_BQcXmR5o?t=911

  12. There might be a kid out there somewhere who sees EB and has his lifelong interest in the subject kindled... just like In Search Of and MonsterQuest did for a lot of us when we were younger. Maybe that kid will be the one who grows up and finally solves the Bigfoot mystery once and for all. As long as it doesn't make the search for Sasquatch out to be a laughingstock, then the show has some value.

  13. I think it's just cool that Bigfoot is still a viable subject to air on TV no matter how it gets done. It's important that BF, while maybe a fun fad for most, gets seen at least getting some professional treatment and interest even if it IS looked upon as having only entertainment value. The general public will still see EB as something somewhat scientifically serious which helps raise the level of the subject's credibility. Nat Geo has been great in that regard. So it's all good IMHO.

  14. I have to keep reminding myself, the better I make my rig, the further off road I'll be stuck! The last time I did something similar, my daughter and I were 43km off pavement, no cell service since km 9, and walked 10km to find a guy with a Garmin inreach to call out for help. I now have a Garmin myself, and upgraded from a softroader Mitsubishi Outlander to a Hummer H3. Now I'll ne able to screw up waaaay out there. :-( Glad you're back safe at home for Christmas, norse.
