The discussion seems to draw from the description (from the book "Other Origins" ) of how the giganto model was made, and the quotes are reasonably correct. The only error, which Dr. Ciochon made himself, was to say he sought me out, when it was I, looking for anthropologists to team with, found him and made the inquiry about a collaboration. But generally the material in the video is correct. The full scale model was indeed a hypothetical design, given we don't have any fossil material but jawbones and teeth. And it was assumed to be a quardaped, and only posed standing up to show off it's true body size, not to suggest it was bipedal. The one arm was raised to suggest it was standing to reach for some kind of fruit. For the record, I don't consider Giganto as a relative of sasquatch. Based on the PGF figure, I personally think she is a hominid, derived from some relic human form such as paranthapus boisei or early neanderthal. Bill4 points

I think Bradley Trevor Grieve hypothesized the enormous bears of Kooznoowoo (Admiralty Island) were either a descendent of the giant short-faced bears or were a mix of polar and brown bear. Chichagof Island is right next door to Kooznoowoo. There was the one colossal bear called Grandfather that they were confident was 13' tall standing up, and taller than 6' at the hump when walking. As they followed the bear on Tsaagwaa Mountain heading toward its den, they found a number of paw prints. One, a rear footprint, they filmed and measured it. A whopping 22" and the print was made in moss. Grieve said that moss "springs back" so the actual footprint was likely 23"-24". Johnny Legg, a fellow biologist wo was with him on the adventure, commented it was the laargest print he'd ever seen outside an elephant. No Tlingit had been on Tsaagwaa Mtn in 400 years and no outsider has ever been on it. They got a quick glipse on Gransfather on the film-production camera but got a full video of it on walking by a trailcam. They found hairs that were tested and DNA revealed that Grandfather was a cross between a polar and brown bear. It is a fantastic two-hour show worth watching. Fascinating how the size of the colossal bears of Kootnoowoo are substantially larger than Kodiak bears---and that's saying something. Here is Admiralty Island/Kootznoowoo and Chichagof to the left. The black marker is Tsaagwaa Mountain. https://www.bing.com/maps?osid=dd14a3eb-f476-4a1d-98c2-3be1d89e2b78&cp=57.592936~-135.117281&lvl=9&v=2&sV=2&form=S000272 points

This is a story that makes no sense any way it is looked at and it happened at a time when there was already drama going on with hoaxes, Matlida, DNA, and whatever else. We'll never know all of the factual details but something definitely happened. Watch Dead Bigfoot and everyone can make up their own minds I guess. (did a YT search and this incident is old and talked to death. There is even a nat geo thing on it.)1 point

Smeja was never part of the BF community. If he participates, he's not doing it to prove anything. That's never been his goal. In fact, he's never had a goal. If he did then he would have been more outgoing about it. As been noted, he came here and didn't go out of his way to convince anyone of anything. He was looking for clues to help him understand what he experienced.1 point

I really think that one has to go to the start of the whole incident of Justin. There was remorse between him and his partner. He just did not come out on these forums and say "hey I just shot a bigfoot and a baby " . It was Derek Randel who brought this to our attention from a hunting forum. What Justin did is use poor judgement on his part and not pick up those bodies. He had that proof in his hands. It would not have matter what he did with those bodies. If he could have crossed state lines with them so that he could not get prosecuted it would have been good for him. Now people may look at him as some bad guy for what he might have done. For what he is now being shown as on TV. He feels bad and even seems to be proactive for these creatures. So some thing has changed in him that took place that dread full day. I am sure that it stills effect him to this day. It impacted him. I know that he is not the same person he once was. I only wish that he would post here again along with Dereck. But we as a forum have pushed some great people away who really need to come back. We all do not have the answers. Yet, there are others with allot more knowledge.1 point

It seems like the Bigfoot story is what got him in hot water as opposed to muddying said waters. Seems like he would have taken the ‘3 S’ route if he shot a bear and was trying to avoid attention. Coming out and claiming that you shot not only a Bigfoot but some juvenile Sasquatch as well...that seems like a recipe for disaster no matter who hears the story. Skeptics will think that you are crazy or a hoaxer, Bigfoot believers will want your head for killing the juveniles, F&W are going to think that you poached bears... That’s a lot of drama and hard feelings...and for what? Some mostly negative attempts in the Bigfoot community and the chance to have your face on a few Bigfoot tv shows? Actually, I always think of Smeja as an example of why someone who actually shot one of these things might not want to come forward...even with some sort of proof. You are going to get no warm welcome from any group...least of all people who are involved with the Bigfoot world. You will be considered a crazy hoaxer at worst...a murderer by the tree huggers at best. All those people with visions of Harry and the Hendersons in their heads would be out for your blood.1 point

A documentary. I’ll try to find it. In the mean time. It’s fun to just look at that country and try to take in its scale!1 point

That is the conclusion the NAWAC people in Area X reached, yes. They employed a strategy of moving people in and out of a blind in the hopes all the shuffling around would confuse them as to where the people were. Bipto described in on one of the podcasts he used to host.1 point

In the early 60's, my parents went on a fishing trip to Canada, and an Indian guide took them to their houseboat, and said "beware of Sasquatch" with complete seriousness before he left. They didn't see anything but did hear strange screams at night. Been interested in the topic ever since I heard that story.1 point

It is a tourism event... Did you think a small gathering in Hastings Nebraska was gonna somehow put an end to the entire Sasquatch mystery? I'm sure half the purpose of the event is to get people to visit Harriet's Bigfoot museum. I think I'll ask Igor if the snarky opinions of an anonymous user on an internet forum matters to him. I'll bet the answer is no. It would be my answer... By the way... HUGE shocker that somehow DNA testing has once again failed to prove anything. I will have fun, thanks...1 point
