  3. I have indeed - lol. The linemen on the telegraph line (which ran right through this area) were pretty rugged dudes. If I recall correctly from the book I read, they signed up for two year "shifts" and had roughly 20 miles of line to maintain each. Every day they would use their key to contact the adjacent linemen and if no contact was made, they would head in that direction to repair the break, or sometimes, find their colleague hurt or dead.

  4. Most of my field trips tend to be work related, but at least it takes me to some pretty cool and occasionally remote locations in northern BC. This is between Bob Quinn and Bell 2, BC, roughly 100 miles due east of Wrangell, AK. So many bears here, typically seeing 7-10 black bears a day and a handful of grizzlies over the shift. Closest reported sighting to here is this - from 2 years ago and about 100 miles south: https://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=65630 Very few people in this country and most places on the map aren't even towns, just gas stations/camps or lodges.

  5. Pleased to report that leaving the Patty footprint cast out during home showings must have worked. Signed an offer today and the Patty cast remains ours. I must say, though, that in the app used by the realtor to manage showings and share feedback, one of the families that walked through the house made special mention of the cast and asked if we had made the cast somewhere on the farm. (Here in central Indiana that is a 'no' - south of us a ways, maybe.) In another month we will be residents of the Keystone State.

  6. I briefly scanned this thread and may have missed an easy attractant. Snoring. I can be really good at this because I do 'cartoon snoring'. They know that a human is in my tent from quite a distance away = no surprises.

  7. Perhaps there's a way to deploy the pheromones of a female gorilla in heat in the field during the mating season. Now that should have some potential! The only drawback I could see is getting access to these pheromones. Unless one is a primatologist, zookeeper, or a veterinarian of exotic animals then accessing gorilla pheromones will prove difficult.
