  1. Who cares what a couple of people on social media are talking about. That’s what is going to prevent discovery? I don’t care what subject you choose, there is probably a Facebook page devoted to it with some pretty far out there ideas. Why would someone sharing a Bigfoot video on Facebook that may or may not be fake hamper the real search for these creatures? This constant desire to control the discussion about this topic is so strange to me. There are no gatekeepers here. Nor does someone else’s efforts have any real impact on my own. Let’s be realistic here…there are far more people who are interested in Bigfoot and discussing it on social media than there are people involved in the actual pursuit of proof. We might get bemused or irritated with the level of discourse, but there is nothing that anyone can do to control that discourse. Nor should we even try. The reason that I am a bit more accepting of some of the crazier stories is…that crazy story may contain a kernel of truth. There may be legitimate activity going on that is being misinterpreted, distorted, and shared by a witness due to their own preconceived notions and beliefs. I shared with at least a couple of you privately about the woman a few hours north of me who claimed that something was trying to get into her house at night and was climbing on her roof. Her story was a bit out there…and contained some narrative elements that she had obviously kind of spun up out of her imagination in an effort to make some sense out of the inexplicable. I won’t go into her story, but if you read it you would assume that it was some sort of creepypasta. She definitely had an active imagination that was trying to make sense of this activity as well as having some pretty strongly held beliefs about the nature of these creatures. Her interpretation of the activity might have been out there…but, the activity itself is undeniable. There is something in that area that is engaging in stereotypical aggressive Sasquatch behavior. There might not be any clans or supernatural elements involved, which figure pretty prominently in her explanation of what is going on. But, there IS something in that part of the state. Her misinterpretation of the activity does not negate the activity itself, no matter how implausible that misinterpretation seems to me.

  2. Two weeks ago, I spent a week in the High Uinta Mountains of Utah, camping and hiking with some friends. It is a beautiful area with easy access to high alpine lakes from the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (Hwy. 150). While the trip was not a BF focused trip, I was fully aware of several BF reports around several of the lakes we visited. I also was aware of the claim by some Utah BF researchers, that the Weber River drainage was a hot-spot. Thus, I decided to take one my hikes overlooking the Weber River drainage and to follow a similar path as one of the BFRO reports (see link below). http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_article.asp?id=188 In this report, two men and their 5 boys, claimed to have hiked to the top of the ridge between Pass Lake and Cuberant Basin at the head of Weber River drainage. When they reached the top of the ridge they looked down upon a small alpine lake about one half mile below and saw the BF like creature standing on its edge. While I don't know exactly where they were, if they were at the ridge above Cuberant Lake, that was about 11,000 ft and Cuberant Lake was down at 10,400 ft. I did not climb the ridge. Instead I followed the trail from Pass Lake to the largest of the Cuberant Lakes in order to see the Weber River drainage to my west and check out one pond and 2 of the Cuberant Lakes. Below is a map extract showing were Pass Lake TH, Cuberant Lake, Fish Lake and Notch Mountain are located. That morning it was 48 F at 9:30 AM and had rained all morning. Thus the dark clouds on the photos. It did not rain anymore until after 2:30 PM. The first photo is of Notch Mountain and the 2nd photo is an unnamed mountain. Both of these were to the west of our position and you can see the Weber River drainage down below. The 3rd photo shows the hike down from the pass into the pond on the way to the Cuberant Lakes. Fourth photo is the first Cuberant Lake and the 5th photo is the largest of the Cuberant Lakes. Overall the whole area is beautiful and I will probably return (with a backpack and to go deeper).

  4. The battle is being waged in the forest. Not social media.

  5. The body of credible anecdotal evidence is huge. The less verifiable and sometimes ludicrous components are easily weeded out by anyone with a bit of discernment. I fail to see how that element has any bearing on success or survival of the community. If it doesn't float your boat, ignore it and carry on. We'll get there.

  7. FYI, im a "ranger" and mainly work in the forest system to get unregulated access to remote and gated areas of the forest system. I know I'm not the only reseaecher who has done this, it allows us to be somewhat of a gatekeeper of our research sites in state and federal land. Ever since ive started working this job ive packed a 50+ lb pack though, which is standard equipment that we would carry out into the forest when we plan on working trails all day, the "travel light" appearance is only a PR look. When were actually conducting trail work we carry our prefered loadout for a 10-12 day. So what you saw may not be as uncommon as you may have thought.

  8. I would add China/Tibet, India, Nepal, and Bhutan. I suspect the official discussions took place between the U.S., Russia, and China in the 1955-1970 timeframe and the realization that non-"discovery" benefitted all (including the creatures). From there the other nations were brought in on the quiet agreement and saw the wisdom in it right away. I believe the United States government has known of these creatures for the better part of the 20th Century, and maybe even before 1900.

  9. I believe that these creatures are a human species that several governments on Earth have decided to protect by simply ignoring their existence officially so they can live their lives out in the primitive manner they've aleays existed in and at the same time reduce the impact of their existence on the rest of us. "Discovery" will be intentionally thwarted as long as possible, and frankly, I think that is the best way to deal with it.
