Lol. What looked like tracks on the mud, but no snow. We already had our two weeks of cold weather. The area has a torn up all to heck with all of the storms, so there’s a lot of debris on the ground. We also found a twisted tree a hour or two before. I didn’t see what it was…it stayed right outside of my light. So…I am not going to say ‘Bigfoot bluff charged me”, but I will say that I experienced something that matches up with what other people have described as a bluff charge. Rather, my partner did. As soon as a moved about 20 feet from her, it sounded like a freight train busting through the woods right at her. Got to the edge of the trees and just stopped. I rushed towards it and nothing was there. No deer, coyote, or even bear makes that much noise here when moving. Honestly, it didn’t sound like a living being coming through the brush. I thought that a tree was falling for a split second…before my brain processed that it was something busting through the trees, not down into them. Again, I didn’t see it…but, it was pretty close to how people describe a charge. I am in the woods at night weekly. I know how sometimes a small creature can sound much bigger in the woods at night. It wasn’t like that. Rather, it didn’t SEEM like that. Who knows? We could have startled the world’s largest woodchuck and he just hit every branch and rock just perfectly to give the impression of greater size. It was definitely something that we haven’t experienced before.5 points

NorthWind: I do look carefully for anything else that has changed in an area with the tree/branch stuff. Have never seen any hairs, only plenty of breaks, there is a certain type of twist/bend/break to things. We've been having this stuff happen since 2014/15. Obvious (to me) alteration of trees/branches. One possible print in the soil that may have been fingertips/partial palm, inch deep. Since I constantly wander around in the yard, I know what changes. We've had a series of things happen in this area, much of it subtle and non threatening.2 points

@wiiawiwb let me know how you like that SAR bag. I use paracord secured with one of those spring loaded barrel clamps to secure the ends of the cord. It is easy get on and off. I picked up my grail knife a few weeks ago…a Cold Steel Recon Scout in 3V steel. It’s like a Fallkniven on steroids. I hate the Cold Steel sheaths, so I had a Randall type sheath made for it. The perspective is odd on this photo and the blade looks shorter than it actually is…but, it gives you a good idea of the setup.2 points

I have, if they exist, which I'm convinced that they do They are marvelous creatures and magnificent in every way. They are survivors that live with and within Nature. They build nests so obviously care about birthing in privacy and their young. And their speed, strength, cunning, and intelligence as well as their home and habitats should be respected and left alone. My issues are with people that, through their actions don't really care about any of that. As a result I get in trouble when I voice my opinions on the matter. The whole concept that there could be such a being out there in the wild is mind blowing to say the least, and after centuries, deserve all of the peace and isolation from us that they deserve.1 point

From BlackRockBigfoot's description of the incident I read three things: Stealth, speed, and power. Also a scream without a shot being fired. So again, stealth speed, and power- with BRB about 20 feet away. So, a reality check: If it was a Bigfoot, evidently it did not want BRB and his partner there. It makes me more than curious why no one anywhere has brought up the point that BRB's partner could be dead right now from a quick hit and run blow to the chest or head? In light of that possibility, no matter how remote, I really don't think anyone wants to hear my opinion on the above quote. This bluff charge thing has really disturbed me with a serious concern of what could have transpired instead of what did. The media? Bear attack and a mag emptied into the forest at night with nothing to show for it. Nothing to show for it because of stealth, speed, and power. Not a pretty picture, but then, I knew it wouldn't be. The outcome of that experience could have been a nightmare. It probably was for his partner, but they were fortunate enough to walk away unharmed.1 point

I'd call it being-in-the-moment and about as real as it can be. Not just a story to you and your partner...you lived it. I think it is fantastic and a place I'd go back to in a heartbeat...once I was out of AFib!1 point

I went one better. I walked into the local DFW field office and talked to one of the staff biologists. I got laughed out of the building. So much for that approach. :( MIB1 point

@NorthWind I will send you the link to his site. I am in the process of getting sheaths made for all of my main knives. Best sheath that I have ever owned. 3V is considered a next level steel, but honestly I don’t think that at that level we could tell the difference. 3V is probably tougher and holds an edge better, but again I don’t think the difference would be notable. Yeah, it’s a V grind. I have an easier time maintaining a V grind on the field. I understand the benefits of a convex grind, but I still sometimes prefer the V. You can go the strop method for sharpening, but honestly I would just get the Work Sharp with the grinding attachment. There is a setting to have a slacker belt for convex grinds and you could do your axes as well. I use the Work Sharp for my Bark Rivers.1 point

@norseman @NorthWind Thanks about your experience with the paracord. That's the way I'm going to go. By the way, I really enjoy this thread and watching all the knives that each of you have. Kudos.1 point

Thanks! It’s a beast. The handle on these even tolerate chemicals better than a lot of other rubber/polymer handles knives. Which is good, because I will be slathered in bug spray in not too many weeks. Cold Steel has a mall ninja rap, which is honestly well deserved and not even a bad thing in my mind. However, they turn out some fantastic user knives…especially the folders. I have yet to come across another company that puts out anything comparable to an SR1, 4Max, or even a Voyager. Unfortunately, they got sold to a large outdoors consortium…so the quality will probably begin to slip away. I am tempted to grab another one of these Recon Scouts to put back…although I honestly don’t see myself ever breaking this one.1 point

Weekly. We have had a full schedule lately, hence my lack of posting. I believe that we actually got ‘bluff charged’ a couple of weeks ago. At least, it matched the accounts of others who have reported such things. Regardless, it was a dump of adrenaline.1 point

I've only used paracord. It holds just fine on my Esee 4 which I carry upside down on my right backpack strap (because I am left handed), and it's always nice to carry extra cordage just in case you have to tie something down, or fashion, oh, I don't know, an emergency splint or something. My Fallkniven Frej, I have in a Patriot Leather sheath, custom made on a dangler from my left hip, so it doesn't interfere with my 1911 and three mags. I LOVE that knife, and I LOVE that sheath. I don't run a chest rig at this time. Good knife choice though. Carbon steel or stainless?? Take a look at tek-locks too, maybe. I've never used one though.1 point

Killing doesn't bother me if it accomplishes something I want to accomplish. Dead bigfoot doesn't accomplish anything I value. So, short of dealing with an immediate threat to my life, I don't imagine that I would, no. MIB1 point
