As an ex report investigator, the problem with just presenting the reports w/o filtering is that .. people suck. The problem is there are quite a few prank reports .. not truly hoaxes .. which are grossly sexually explicit, not fit for a family audience and many others are simply profane to that same degree. Much the same as seen today on most social media platforms except that the "jerks" (insert your favorite expletive here) that submit these don't even have accounts to "put in jail", they are totally anonymous. Someone has to weed those out before presentation which means that someone still has to read them all. :( MIB3 points

That does't sound much fun for the data guys VA, we'd become completely obselete there with all the junk in the mixer that's for sure, and that would be to the disadvantage of the subject overall imo. I shudder at the thought of it and what would become of the SSR..;)2 points

We have similar problems, for example, vinchyfoot the troll keeps creating new accounts after we banned him, I wish he would get a life, what a looser.2 points

I understand that a decent portion of them may be garbage, but let the public decide. If someone says they saw a purple BF with glowing orange hair, riding a green horse with three heads and eating a lemon snow cone, and a reader believes it, well, cannot really help that... Just saying that if all of them are out there for the public to inspect, it could/would add to the evidence database if someone else had a similar encounter/experience. And like I said, if BFRO really thinks a report is bogus, give it an F rating indicating that we (BFRO) believe the report is total crap. Put a disclaimer on it that the BFRO has not investigated it yet. Might even draw a few more researchers into the organization. People then have the option to believe or not. I just think that there is good evidence that may never see the light of day due to the staffing shortages (for lack of a better term) at BFRO that could advance the knowledge of the topic if it were public.2 points

I decided to build an IR camera rig to film at night. I have an older Canon XF200 that has an IR mode. It also has a 1/4 20 threaded hole in the handle. This threaded hole gave the perfect spot to mount a homemade light rig. I bought an inexpensive ball head from flea bay. I used to 1” scope rings and two Weaver bases on the angle aluminum I got from my local tractor supply. The rings worked perfectly on my two IR lights. The ball head allows me to keep the beam in frame over various distances. This should allow me to film at least a few hundred yards. Not my best work but still functional.1 point

Grew up in the Blue Mountains of Walla Walla, still living in the pnw and still interested in the phenomenon. When I was a kid I once saw a pointy headed figure in the middle of the night on a camping trip that changed my perception of the outdoors. I still don't know what it was but I would still like to know.1 point

Perhaps researchers in areas where he does not have his own. Maybe the locals have seen the same sort of stuff and it might be a piece of the puzzle that helps them out. Maybe not. In my view, worth a shot.... Correct. As far as I can tell, there would be no financial gain for Matt or the BFRO if they released that info. In fact, it might cost them (somebody else makes the BIG discovery based on "his" data and provides a type specimen; thereby making a lot of money from the discovery). On one hand you have a financial interest and on the other you have a discovery interest. The two trails are not mutually exclusive, but more often than not, probably do not line up together. In my opinion (and it is opinion only), if you really want to solve the mystery, you put everything out there for others to use as well. And yes, I know that most almost all researchers do not publicize their information, so Matt is like the other 99.98% of researchers in that regard. Of course, if I were in Moneymaker's shoes, I might be doing exactly what he is doing. I certainly cannot blame him for making a decent living (I presume he makes a decent living from it) from the BFRO brand. Wish I had thought of it three decades ago. He has done an outstanding job of making the BFRO a brand that is well known, at least among a certain segment of the population.1 point

The questions .. helpful to whom? And is the guy paying for it one of the people it helps? I'm guessing here that if Matt felt that it was financially beneficial, he'd already be doing it, so if he's not ... there's a reason and it's not mere oversight. That means it is quite possible that if I were TRULY in his shoes, not just flapping my gums to puff myself up, that I'd likely make the same choices he is making. Anyone who didn't isn't actually wearing his shoes, they're just blow smoke. If we want him to do something different, we have to offer incentive that he isn't already getting. I don't know what that is, just know it is needed. MIB1 point

Ooooohhh a lot H, don't quote me on it but for sure a large portion of them, 75% plus kind of thing easy, and i wouldn't be surprised if it was north of 85% too, that direction. And that is due to a number of reasons including the obvious 'I saw a Sasquatch and he ate my shoe' type of bogus reports of which there are far more than you'd imagine, seemingly daily, and so so so many with just a real lack of any kind of detail at all for it to be considered a legit report. Sad but true..1 point

That allows serious researchers, like Dr. Meldrum, to concentrate on their work.1 point

Exactly, corroboration is the acid test of sighting reports to me. If I had not learned of a nearby sighting in their database, I probably would not have had my sighting and added to the conundrum called BF. @BobbyO I can assure you many thought my sighting was garbage too but I chose not to have it listed publically not that they would have. Met some cool investigators in my turf pre-sighting, Leigh Culver, Matt Pruitt and a female researcher whose name I have long since forgotten. Also, had a long-term audio feedback consultation with Stan Courtney as a result of my pre- and post-sighting and encounter experiences. So there are some good BFRO elements/personnel. @Explorer It is this part that I verified too during my research and sighting experience. Not so much any zapping or mindspeak but enough trickster and infrasonic activity to make up for the lack of the latter.1 point
