In the east coast (NC) my experience is that they move down from the mountains in to warmer regions as they track food. I have never had an experience in the summer but have had 1 roughly ever other year for the last 15 years from November to March as they hunt deer in the wilderness not far from my home. They also follow rivers in their path. Just my 2 cents.2 points
