  1. Can't tell if this is as serious thread or just ran off the rails. Prepare to read some real weird choices: I always carry a .40 Glock with two spare mags on my right hip. Bear spray on the left. And, either a pistol caliber carbine, a .40 Keltec sub2000 with a cheap red dot that takes the same Glock mags as the pistol, and I carry three stick mags for it. 31 round double stack mags. But 99% of the time it's unloaded in my pack, but easily accessible. Yes, over a hundred rounds of 40 s&w in Glock mags, interchangeable with each other. Mostly because when I'm in the woods, there's no real range to shoot out to and the sub2k folds in 1/2 and only takes a few seconds to flip open to battery and I have a paranoid fear over running out of ammo but only when I carry these two. Plus the sub2k is a blast to shoot, I usually wind up wasting ammo on target shooting with it on the way out. If Im packing this, I'm usually not more than a few hours walk from the truck. Or, I carry a Remington 700 in either 30-06 or .270 with a total of 20 rounds of decent Hornady rounds. Four in the on board mag, a few in the sling and the rest in my pack. These both have decent but cheap optics, and the .270 was dropped on its head but still shoots accurately so I didn't bother to replace the optics on it. Both of these are light enough, accurate enough, and long range enough to shoot out a few hundred yards without too much concern for missing. I carry these usually at the low ready. Almost never slung. And they'll both kill anything in North America without trouble. Yes, a .270 will drop any animal in my areas, in the eastern US. 30-06 will do most any other animal in the nation, though loads of people want higher energy for big bears. I've been tempted to carry all three on the long walks, but my inconsistent paranoia over ammo tells me there is such thing as too much, lol. I don't know. Just weird like that. Hardly the biggest waste of energy I have, that's got to be the extra 50 pounds of lard I carry around with me on my gut. What's 10 more pounds of ammo?

  3. Hey Foxhill, thanks for the re[ply....yeah they really don't like the game cams, busted 2 up pretty good, and they didn't touch any treats for about 2 years at the place I always leave them. Hey JKH, always good to hear from you! October 7th is the big 70, but I'm fit, healthy, goofy as ever, and no health issues......running these woods works magic:) I would have to look back, but don't think I've ever posted a pic of myself on here, always wanted to remain anonymous so here you go.

  4. Actually, this well recognized safety violation brings up another potential problem that I might be setting myself up for. May as well try to use this derailed thread to get something useful discussed. My greatest outdoors nightmare is waking up in a sleeping bag inside a tent with a large predator outside. There have been many such well documented events, especially here in Alaska, and they are the stuff of real life horror. I keep a handgun near my head in a tent, and my current gun is a Glock 20 with a Streamlight attached. The Streamlight is one of the reasons why I chose the Glock over my old 44 mag revolver (the other main reasons being large capacity, quickly replaced magazine, and tritium sights). I also mounted a picatinny rail and Streamlight onto my Marlin 450 lever action rifle (equipped with ghost ring sights). The safety problem with using lights like this on firearms in the dark is similar to using your rifle scope to view objects at far off ranges: your muzzle is on something that might not be a valid target. Police and military sniper teams use their rifle scopes for target assessment. The spotter uses binoculars and spotting scopes, but the sniper assesses target viability with the rifle scope. Police and military also use lights mounted on firearms for use in darkness. In a nighttime encounter with a potential predator, if a verbal challenge is issued and you get a deep growl or roar in return, I think you're legally and morally justified in engaging almost sight unseen (ie, shooting right through the tent walls). Successfully exiting the tent after a verbal challenge that isn't responded to, I also think you're legally and morally justified in scanning the area with a light mounted gun. A verbal challenge that isn't properly responded to is a green light for pointing weapons around liberally.

  5. Trolling in the kill club category usually does not last long. Whistles are used for alarm / signal and locate. The ass kicking was carried out by Federal law enforcement. Stupid human tricks on National Forest land are not allowed. Only in basements. I posted that you had an interesting story. Story, period. You found one turkey hunter. Funny, the turkey hunter found at least one turkey. You will have to do better with the fire arm scenarios. Scopes are not "HUGE". Scopes are described by the optical characteristics. Moth to a flame, then the flame goes out. Did you lose a bet or is the bet how many pages you can eek out before being banned?

  7. Actually, I forget when the Bigfoot Forum 1.0 opened it's doors, but I think it was back around the 1999-2000 time frame, so I've been playing here for @ 20 years.

  11. Catmandoo, I see that you've retreated to the usual standby here : when you disagree with a member and/or get out whitted, the ole' "TROLL" accusations fly. Do you also run crying to the Admin and hide under the skirts of a Mod?
