  1. Way to knock down one posters opinion of Sasquatch and then imply your own as fact. You yourself are just throwing out ideas. Ignorance personified. Cherry on top is to assume you know a posters outdoor experience and challenge them to “try to revive senses”. Not mad, just disappointed.

  2. Or.... Are there so few they are essentially like the "tree that falls in the Forrest but no one is around to hear it". Suppose there is a near-extinct or soon-to-be-extinct bigfoot number of Bigfoot out there. Pick your number. 100, 500, even 1,000 or whatever. What are the odds of even seeing one in the deep woods? Then consider what circumstance would even bring 1 of these 'animals' to some neighborhood in Peoria Illinois. Even IF they are not shy, they have to be rare. How rare? Who knows? I use again this example of a couple who spotted a wolverine in Yellowstone. (The encounter is very similar to the PGF right down to the Wolverine trotting off after the look-back.) If this animal is near impossible to see, it has to be unheard of to see a wolverine in non-wolverine country.

  3. ^ All of that pretty much "trumps" the horse that bit me and the dogs that broke my scapula (totally my fault). You have lived a world of in-depth experience in the wild. I envy that (sort of, haha) although I would be terrified in most of those circumstances. I know that it is the Life that you were probably, more or less, born into and you have embraced it. I feel better with a reliable partner and a good side-arm although I know that it is exactly as you said, "They will do something that will blow your mind and not in a good way." So, we do the best we can. I eat other animals. My wife, as a general rule, does not eat other animals. (Although, she made some extremely good chicken salad yesterday that was apparently impossible for even a determined vegan to resist.) Point being that this world is a brutal place. Eat or be eaten I guess. I wish it were different, but it is what it is. The show is good, btw! It's amazing that so much interesting content can be streamed these days, after the fact. It is endless! Thanks for this thread, Norse. The occasional witness interviews they do are probably my favorite part. The look in those people's eyes and their voices when they recount their sightings is something very real and convincing, in my opinion.

  4. @WSA Thanks for the shout out! I'm discovering new "pitfalls and realities" with my research all the time, but it's still exciting. I feel really good that I and my colleagues will be able to shed light on some things - but doing real science takes a lot of time and effort, especially when we need to be careful and diligent, and document things thoroughly. I'm more impatient than anyone to see what we find! Best, Darby Orcutt NC State University

  5. @Backdoc Great questions, and it's not unusual for folks in this community to be confused about issues of DNA. For one, most of the info floating around the BF community is misinformation (most of it hopefully unintentionally so). It is also difficult for folks to understand (without actually knowing about DNA methods) why scientists can do some almost "magical" things with DNA in some areas and yet other areas of knowledge are not yet well fleshed out at all. I check in on the BFF only every few months to see what folks are asking/posting that's DNA-related. Not bragging, but stating a fact: I am the only one leading credible DNA study of potential Sasquatch samples: https://sites.google.com/ncsu.edu/darbyorcutt/ Please LMK what questions you may have, as I'm sure others have the same ones. Cliff Barackman wants me to come back on his podcast soon, and I want to address the things that things that folks in the BF community are wondering about. The *brief* answers to your questions are: 1) There has been very little credible testing of potential BF DNA, period. Cliff mentioned my work on tracking down prior testing during his last Q&A podcast. Most "results" are rumors, misunderstandings, or made-for-TV fictions or spin. 2) Yes, if Bigfoot is indeed an unknown species, we'd absolutely be able to tell that if we were presented with BF DNA samples. That said, depending on what a potential such species actually were, it might require a qualified team actually really looking for such to find it (which is one of the reasons I started this project). 3) Environmental DNA (eDNA) techniques are extremely powerful for looking for *known* DNA sequences, which is why the almost magical examples that you mention (Covid detection in wastewater, Grizzly detection in the wild). Generally speaking, eDNA is an exceedingly much harder path towards discovery of new species. Darby Orcutt NC State University

  6. If BF were to ever cross into an Urban area then it would be by happenstance of it being a nomadic creature. Exactly for the reasons Backdoc spelled out. One might even be able to go a step further and attribute sickness or fatigue to the reason it crossed into an urban territory. If they are believed to be smart enough to avoid modern technology, then short of a malfunction, they avoid urban America.

  8. The sasquatch are not "shy animals", more like wild opportunists with superior skills. You should read up on Omaha native stuff before just throwing ideas out. The Alaska links are interesting facts. Urban wildlife of all sorts has been documented for decades or more. Go outside and try to revive some senses.
