Bigtex
Been workin' like a dog, no hiking make Bigtex a dull boy.........finally got out there, and Spring is in the air.......need lots of rain too. A nice print, and a Deer who apparently fell from up a ravine to his death, pretty fresh.......why do the Buzzards eat the eyes first?
WRabbit
why do the Buzzards eat the eyes first? Like the tongue, eyes are easily removed.

Bigtex
The eye deal is just creepy.......all of the above, and I would include the buzzards desire to not have its meal looking at him:) Some older print impressions, including what looks like a rather huge Hog, wanna avoid that ole boar. kbhunter
Those big hogs can cause a quick hurting!! Avoidance is best unless your armed! Be careful out there BT! KB
Bigtex
Nice hiking weather.......bipedal migrations are in full swing for our favorite subject, and the human kind too........home-made tent where at least a few were hanging, a nice spring fed pool, and a cool looking Deer skull that's been sitting in the creek for a while. Bigtex
Thanks KB.......got my dogs and a knife, but I'm looking for a tree if he/they get by the dogs. Ran across several females & young a few weeks back, and they seemed particularly scared of my wolfy. Lulu never ceases to amaze me with her knowledge & mastering of all things wild, the ultimate hike dog. She seems to know just how to chase hogs too, no barking, stealthy quiet, but they know she's coming and panic big time. The fact that somethings creepin' up on them seems to totally unnerve dem piggies! I mentioned this before, Lulu seems to like BF scent, and will follow it a ways, whereas my other two dogs don't want anything to do with it.......the wolf seems intrigued, but won't follow the scent very long. I have heard that these creatures have a nose that will put a Bloodhound to shame, and I believe it.
Bigtex
It got cold down here again, expecting a light freeze tonight, but great hiking over the weekend. Not much sign, but a civilized reality check in the midst of my hike yesterday - was hiking under the bridge near town, have referred to as 'The Funnel' in previous posts, and came across where a car had plunged down into the creek under the bridge, pictures of that.......and can only hope the occupants survived. Bigtex
Here's an interesting impression/print in Limestone.........how long has the big guy been around? FYI......I find human sized and big ones like this within the same layer of Limestone along the creek beds. Was early man in search of Bigfoot too? (that's a joke, ha, ha, but the prints are there......who's after who?)
Bigtex
I hope you guys don't mind me posting to many times in a row......this is number 5:) Here's an interesting track way that I found......we've had a bit of rain, and the ground is moist, perfect for spotting sign. The area pictured is near the (dry) creek bed, and an where I have found many tracks over the years. I believe the big guys use this game trail to get in and out of our small town at night, and other animals are using it too, particularly Deer. I have seen sign of a commotion several times at the base of a rather large tree, and is probably being used as an ambush point.......I certainly would. The pictures show the ground disturbance, and a few interesting tracks.
Guest JenJen of Oldstones
Hi Bigtex - these are great pics. Do you know how big the footprint is in the one labeled "Foot Chase - Print 2"? The one with the whole print outlined in red.
Bigtex
I don't carry much gear, no casting material or measuring items......always try to put my foot/shoe in the picture for comparison, and measures - 12' length, 4.75" width across ball, and 4" across the heel. The prints in the possible ambush track way appeared to be from the same individual, so use my shoe size for reference. The pic below appears to be the print made from a jump, and is most likely where 'the thing' landed when it pounced out of the tree. Wish I had my video cam that day, coulda showed it much better with video. I'll go over there again in a day or 3 with video, but I've been through there and my 3 dogs, so the scene won't be the same, and has aged a few days with some rain & hail.......it seemed to be just hours old when I came through there.
