Guest
I wonder why BF would even need protection? ... They're way better at surviving, and, thriving, without our help. Really? I don't disagree that I think someone trying to hunt a bigfoot for sport and pleasure will end up being very disappointed, but we have no idea whatsoever regarding their ability to survive and thrive. There's been zero work to establish a serious baseline estimate of their population, zero work to determine if they're becoming more prevalent or less in specific areas, and zero work to figure out how they live or how much forest they need to thrive. Of course, their very nature will make those things difficult to establish, but my experience tells me they won't be impossible. And until such time as they're proven, no serious effort will be made to find any of these things out. Regardless, there's no way I'm signing the petition... Oonjerah
I was asked to do this, and I did. My heart is in the right place for me because I truly would hate to see them being considered as "sport" animals. Mark, Are you serious? Someone asked for clothing ideas relating to Sasquatch here? Jiminy Crickets! Now I show up with this! I am no longer wondering what the problem is...I now know. Sadly, However, I think there is nothing left to do but wait for the DNA results which will be such a relief for me and a lot of other people who have been trying to help for the past couple of years to set things up for the DNA release to go smoothly. Hunting: No one here wants to see them become a big game target. Several folks, tho, agree with Grover Krantz that we need a type specimen. (Not me) Susi, (to the best of my knowledge) the public relations problem began in November when Igor Burtsev "mistakenly" leaked Dr. Ketchum's intended press release. Then instead of damage control, we got more leaks and what I would consider antics or side show. You showed up = bad timing. This study is far too important to be treated like a publicity stunt. Guest
Protect the Sasquatch! Goodness knows they need it I think they are safer than I am at the moment. I wish that I had thought to ask if I could wait and have the petition ready to go on the release date of the DNA. I know that this species can and does take care of itself from most hunters, yet with legal protection situations such as Justin Smeaja's would end up with him in jail or at least fined instead of being a well known pseudo-celebrity. chelefoot
Obviously I don't want to see them shot or killed... ( other than the need for a type specimen ) but the thought of the government stepping in and doing ANYTHING also kind of worries me. Maybe I will decide once the paper is published... Oonjerah
Igor Burtsev lived and worked on Bigfoot research here in the USA for a number of years. He gave lectures at conferences and the like. He knows American English well enough. ETA: He may be a sweetheart. But I do not trust his claims when it comes to Bigfoot, Yeti or a baboon. Guest
Sweet Susiq- by signing this petition only gives the administration some sort of idea on how the public feels. Do you know the process for introducing legislation into law and the time it takes for this type of undertaking; you have only skimmed the surfice and have started on a path that involves alot of administrative law, reviews, etc etc etc. However I did sign this petetion and I wish you the best and that you truely are "up to " the long process. Let me ask you this, have you contacted your conress represenitive or state legislator or state regulators and looked into the process? Get back to us when you get the DNA report, some very definitive film clips and have gone thru the review process that awaits you-- really I would like to know how you are making out with your effort, OK? Let me just say this, It took 36 months to pass a bill that prohibits sport or commercial fishing industries from caughing sharks cutting off their fins for shark skin soup and just "dumping" the rest of the carcass. IMO protection for an unclassified species could be at least a year and a half depending, but if BF shows to be close HSS and till go thru a classification process it may be that you could have some support. Good lck and I really do mean the best for your effort. Edited January 16, 2013 by ptangier

Hi SusiQ...Who asked you to start the petition, if you don't mind the question? And who else has been helping to create this "smooth transition?" Edit to add: You claim the species is not human, but hasn't Dr. K gone on record in interviews saying that they are a type of human? From the press release:(underlining mine) “Genetically, the Sasquatch are a human hybrid with unambiguously modern human maternal ancestry. Government at all levels must recognize them as an indigenous people and immediately protect their human and Constitutional rights against those who would see in their physical and cultural differences a ‘license’ to hunt, trap, or kill them.†Edited January 16, 2013 by notgiganto
Guest OntarioSquatch
I'm curious to know why they would start a petition right now instead of when the paper is published and why they would ask someone else to start one rather than do it themselves. It doesn't add up.
gigantor Posted January 16, 2013 Admin Share Posted January 16, 2013 Really soon, and I know that all of us have been hearing this for *years* but it will be out *really* soon. Pardon my incredulity.
southernyahoo
Regardless, there's no way I'm signing the petition... I can see the conflict of interest, but in another way, you really wouldn't want them hunted or carelessly shot at would you? A law enacted to protect them would be an admission of their existence. Guest Cervelo
You guys do realize that the 25,000 sigs just means the Feds will respond to the petition, guess what I'm predicting the answers going to be? Another great example of getting the cart before the horse. Edited January 16, 2013 by Cervelo

Guest
If you believe BF exist, why wouldn't you sign it ? What possible damage can it do to sign this petition ? there is no downside and very good possible upside to signing it, so again, if you believe, why not Sign it, it takes 30 seconds at best.
