Okay, I'm a girly girl, I can't help it, I was made this way. I forgot to mention, any encounters would always involve *other* people being there with me. I'm never going into the woods alone *ever* again. This way I will not be the *only* terrified person there. Personally, I'm hoping that my soldier son will go searching with me a little bit. He's been in combat. Together we should do well.. One very important thing to mention: Nurses and Physicians are trained to react in emergencies. If encountering a BF does not count as an emergency, I don't know what would. I would react correctly, then cry when we were safe.. But I would be so proud that I saw a BF!! I understand but you seem like a very nice but kinda timid indoor lady? how your heart?seriously. Because even the bravest rough necks types are scared senseless when they run into them up close. Hubby and soldier son will be there also. Wow, a physician, a registered nurse, and an Army 1st.Lt, soon to be a Captain. BF would not stand a chance.. well, we would just hopefully remember to take a picture. BTW, Tracker, You are a sweetie. Guest FindMe
I do believe that they can sense what your intensions are,if you carry a gun they might have seen one before and it might not have been a good thing.I also think that they have a 6th sense, they must have something that we don't have cause they have remained hidden for so long and WE can't find them.

We could most definitely find them. The government just doesn't want to find them - imagine what it would do to the tourism business in public parks. Family's would stop going camping in areas with Sasquatch activity.

Families aren't being molested or harmed now, why would release of any information cause any difference?
Guest Sean V
I can understand how it would. Some people/groups of people only believe what authority tells them, if the government of a country came forth and said "Okay, okay. We admit it, there are creatures roaming about the forests of North America. Some call them Sasquatch/Bigfoot/Wildman, but whatever you call them they are real." Some folks just wouldn't feel "safe" camping or doing outdoors activities anymore. Even though they are much more likely to come across a problem bear, mountain lion, or another human with dangerous thoughts in his/her head, its still the image of the giant hairy "monster" that would dwell in their minds and keep them away. Sasfooty
I am now looking forward to an extended up close encounter as my 3rd experience with (I can only dream) some sort of interaction... Then I can retire to that rocking chair and die a happy fulfilled man... That's what I thought a few years ago, too, but I found that it's like money to a rich man. There's never enough. Guest ThePattyArcade
I wonder what would happen if you somehow found a way to make yourself smell of female gorilla/chimpanzee/orangutan pheromones, and you went out into the forest alone.... If you did & there was a bigfoot person there, he would think "Shoo-eeee!! I smell a stinking gorilla!" (JMO, of course.)

Thanks Mom but please don't be calling me names like sweatie in front of everyone . I am sure your son the 1st Luie would understand. I wore the bars of a Luie at one time too. Then they assigned me to field related duties away from the others, jerks. Your son is also in the medical field? just a guess. Some Ranger field training would come in handy in the woods. If he likes that sort of thing? Got to go Mom talk to you soon. Edited April 4, 2011 by tracker
Guest
Exactly. However, I'd want to know for certain that my romanticized sacrificial death would lead to the inclusion of Sasquatch as a known species. Not saying I'm about to go out on a suicide mission looking for these things though. Am back after a few days computer-less. "romanticized sacrificial death" -- seen only as "very-extreme-least-probable" -- and we can never be totally sure of anything in this world and this life. General picture got, is that if one basically leaves them in control, and does as they indicate, one is very unlikely to be physically harmed. If "severely escorted away" happens one time -- another time, one might be luckier. My personal circumstances are such that I feel I'd be ready to run the small risk of "dying in the attempt" and achieving nothing doing so -- great variation, for numerous reasons, in people's individual mileages. He was able to fire a tank gun during a summer training when he was in school, and that was it! He wanted armor, and was able to get into that field. You are welcome to call me Mom if you so wish. I adore my children, and being a mom is the greatest gift a woman can receive IMHO. What area did you serve in after they took you out of armor? Yikes, we're off topic. Have you had an encounter? I have not yet, but the spring is a good time to go to Morton's Gap where there was a sighting recently, and look around. after this comment, and some of the pics ive seen on various sites (olympic project etc), Yea, its not the BF I'd be worried about... Im thinkin one of those pickup truck campers or the tow behind one (like you mentioned).... I'm not even a fan of domestic cats... Im even less of a fan of big ones that may see me as "tender vittles"... If i was in a tent after you/someone reminded me of cougars, the entire night would be spent + and whenever i heard a noise I would be Art, I sincerely think that we are related! LOL, You are too cute, and have a great sense of humor. But, Have you had an encounter? We have a local hot spot near us, and hubby and I will go hiking there this weekend with a camera. I have hope, possibly foolish hope, but hope none the less. I think the reality for me is, no I don't want to have an encounter it would scare the crap outta me. I don't even think I would want to see it in captivity. From what I have read on here seeing one is a life changing event and I'm just not ready for that. I think I will ease into it with the Erickson DVD. When is this DVD coming out? Do you have any knowledge about a release date, or if there is a DVD coming out? If true, I will order it. They have documented BF encounters correct? Edited April 14, 2011 by masterbarber
Guest Kronprinz Adam
Sure, but would prefer a close range encounter to be when I'm hunting something else and chosen to take my 338 Mag that day. Would I shoot? probably not if the monkee stayed in neutral. If it showed aggression?, well the 338 mag was devised specifically to put the skids on the biggest & most dangerous game in North America. We might well get some questions answered if that unlikely day ever came... I have long held the position that we humans are genetically imprinted to fear large predators, even if we have never encountered them in our largely urban existence. The idiots that don't have been getting culled out for as long as we have been around. Google "Timothy Treadwell" if you want to see an example of a large predator/human cull candidate story. The people who have been scared spitless by a close up encounter with a monkee are just showing good natural survival instinct, IMO... "the monkee"... I'm starting to like your spontaneity!! I agree with you, I think people will have afraid when encountering very large bears, lions, snakes and birds... A friend of my family told me seriously the story that they have found something on the woods that has scared his expedition party...what he described (a black-jet raptor larger than a condor) matches the description of a thunderbird!!! When I was around 4, my aunt took me to the local zoo...they had 2 giant grizzlies, inside an iron cage...I felt terrible scared, because I could perceive the power of that creature...they pushed the bars of the cage with a tremendous strenght, and making a big noise that I didn't want to approach them!!! But returning to the Sasquatch question, I think in most cases Sasquatch will flee or move away, in a few cases he will stand ground...(but I think it would be a different situation if you find "the monkee" raiding in your countryside home). I have read a report of a couple which were inside a train, and they were able to see a Bigfoot...it was amazing, but not scary (I think somehow they felt protected inside the vehicle, and I suppose it was traveling slow, otherwise you see only spots!!) Greetings. K. ADam.

I have not yet, but the spring is a good time to go to Morton's Gap where there was a sighting recently, and look around. Yea I've talked about them in some of my threads. I posted an almost exact one as mine in" old and new reports that are so similar its scary" thread. We were CAF's version of your Rangers, i trained as sort of a scout you could say. I can't talk about that end of it too much ,sorry. Back on topic we go. I wanted to pose some questions to help you gage if you are ready for an encounter or sighting? Sure everyone believes they could handle it. But it's not always a romantic setting if you understand that term. Most witnesses were unarmed and don't count on having an army at your side either. It usually just one or two people out for a hike or a drive then it happens when you least expect it. Just ask yourself thses Q's. 1. What is the closest experience that you have had that could prepare you for it? Pls no mother in-law jokes. 2. Hows your heart? and overall condition. could you make it back to the car or cabin and not get lost? 3. Would you panic or freeze up in a confrontation with a bear or cougar if unarmed? now what about at night? Animals can sense your fear and the preds even more so and will use that advantage especially if you run. My point is most people have never had anything even remotely as scary happen to them in their life. Read the book Monster by Frank Peretti. Sure it's a work of fiction but he did his homework when expressing the fear factor envolved with most encounters. Also i like his interpretation of the Sasquatches survival intelligence, instincts and group dynamics in this book. It's a good read if you can get past a killer Bf in the woods. Guest Cervelo
Good points Tracker, I would be much more concerned about encountering a known animal and as you stated one would have to be very good at their situational assesment and what the reaction should be on their part. Most people panic (panic kills) and their reactions differ freeze, run, scream who knows. That's the one thing about going it alone no witnesses to our indiscretions!
