How Sure Are You?

I have *hesitated to answer this, and for that reason alone I am saying 99% as opposed to 100%.

*Why-- I'm not sure.

Yes I am-- it's because I haven't actually seen the full image, myself.

With all the detailed reports and sightings I have read/seen, coupled with my own mysteries adding up to equal BF activity, how could I not believe, other than out of my own stubbornness.

The most impressive video for me was the Russian account where the little boys followed the tracks and caught the BF on their phone video. When that thing turned and left, it was SO FAST. This was also what really made me start thinking seriously about their existence-- as recent as this past winter. As far as written accounts, Michigan Blogger's (forget his username at the moment) report leaves no question whatsoever in my mind. I just wonder why the BF dropped the fawn... it certainly didn't HAVE to. I wondered if it thought of the act as a "surrender" of the food source. The most disturbing account was the one where "someone" had the dogman chase their brother home through the woods on his bicycle, and she saw it clearly when it came out of the woods. Horrifying... ZERO reports on this thing have come close to it sounding possibly friendly.~

Earlier, after first joining this site, I said I was too afraid to ever want to actually see one. (have to avoid stress because of mild heart condition)

But hey-- if it's out there, it's there, and I'm tired of wondering if even newer mysteries are due to BF. So, I would like to see one, for proof, and pray that it doesn't have a snout. At this point, I would be filing an official report and contacting several of you people on here to come and investigate if you wanted, regardless of what my non-believing husband said. I'd sneak if I had to.

I just read a recent report where a woman and her son saw one cross the road in front of them, very close to where I live, but across the lake. It really worries me because this is a place where my husband bowhunts, as well as other younger people we know.

Until I see one I can never be 100% sure, so put me at 99%. But I know two people who have had encounters (one in SW WA who was followed--escorted--along a river when he was a teen, as told to me through a mutual friend) and another who had a very intimidating experience in Eastern Wa. In this case, a creature walked across his farm at dusk as I recall, yowling and howling and scaring his dogs and at least another family member half to death. I can't recall if he tried to look at it or not (I don't believe so) as the thing was so rank and loud that I think he was all but paralyzed in fear. It was some time ago that he told me of his encounter, but I know he's willing to tell me again so that I can record it.

But yeah, after more than a year spent out here listening to the likes of Coonbo, Branco, SWWA and the habituators kind enough to share their encounters, I am all but convinced of its existence. Enough so that it's a different experience for me now whenever I am out hiking or fly fishing. Eyes and ears wide open. I don't fear them, but I don't care to be caught off guard, either (thinking of the dogman variety particulary...).

Foxfire and Gotta Know, from what I've heard about dog people, there is nothing to worry about. The same thing applies to them that applies to BF -- if you're respectful, you will be fine. No worries for your husband or those kids, Foxfire. It can be tricky, trying to keep your cool when you hear something you're not accustomed to hearing, for sure; but if you can try to discipline yourself not to freak out, you usually discover there never was anything to freak out about to begin with. (Even if there was some pointed message being delivered, you just say your apologies and turn around and go a different way.)

Gotta Know, I'm the same way. Not afraid, but I sure do keep my eyes and ears open. It's so cool, because there's almost always something of interest to see and hear.

Yes, thanks Sheri. I went back and read it again (I remember when you'd first posted it). Yours is like so many others that make me feel very confident in believing they're out there. Blind faith would be a report or ten. Hundreds, even thousand of reports, videos like PGF and even the one recently taken in the cypress swamp (my fave) make it hard to accept any other conclusion. Oh, and Bipto's efforts, of course.

My own personal question is how much do I want to go looking, or just let an event possibly happen on its own?

Depends on what you want out of it.   That, too, is  your own personal question.

Gotta Know, If you do go, don't do what they do on finding bigfoot. Don't tree knock, don't yell. just go for a peaceful walk. Don't do anything that can be taken as agressive. Just listen and watch. That's what i was doing and I was by myself. I think that makes a difference. I have read a lot of sighting reports and a lot of sightings happen when the person is by themselves and just sitting there quitely ( like hunters) or walking the trails like i was. I had just stopped for a moment to look down into the ravine. I also  don't think there is anyway to prepare yourself if you see one. It's really scary !

@MIB: Indeed. I tend to ease into things versus being a jump in with both feet (no pun intended) kinda guy, but I suspect I will find myself on an outing one of these days specifically looking for the big fellow. But I also know that if I open myself up to the experience--without fear--that simply heading out to fish any of the NW fisheries that I enjoy may likely result in a sighting. It's wrapping my mind around the notion that they have been there the whole time that is somewhat unsettling. And simultaneously reassuring.

Sheri: great advise--thanks! Totally agree.

I am at 99% due to the majority of reasons given,  but unlike others i tend to think it is more humanlike than ape like.

I am 100%  sure they exist. I couldn't get a good look at it, so I don't know if it was dog type, classic type or what. There are definitely 700-800 lb bipedal predators out there.

Hey ttmatt: your use of the word "predator" is interesting in this context. Do you have a recorded sighting anywhere I can read, or can you share your observation here? Did you see one in the act of hunting? Thanks!

My encounter is posted in the Mid-Atlantic section titled "My encounter in NC". I was very close to this creature, less than 20 ft away from it. The combination of it's behavior, and my instinctual response leaves no doubt as far as it's capability, intentions, and abilities. These creatures have a very powerful "presence".I can't speak about people seeing them from a distance, but, when you get that close to one, the situation becomes absolutely clear. It is a very primal situation, there is no mistaking who is in control, and who is not. This thing made me feel like a piece of meat, like a rabbit, or a deer. These creatures are not gorillas, they hunt and kill for a living.

^Just went over and read it. Wow. That is as intense an encounter as I've read. Thanks for sharing (and I had to shake my head at the person who asked if you might have been hallucinating. Rude!) I'm adding a question or two there so as not to derail this thread. Thanks!

I'm at 97% or better. My reasons: because there are thousands upon thousands of reports, and most of them seem to be biologically and behaviourally consistent. I also put a lot of credence in the First Nations traditions which treat Sasquatch as a part of everyday life, just as real and present as a pine tree or a frog. I would still love to have my own encounter, something firmer than "gee, where did that stump go?" ;)
