MIB Posted October 26, 2014 Moderator Posted October 26, 2014 jayjeti - I'm fairly versed regarding Paulides' work. One of his clusters is in my area so I've taken special interest. I don't know how many times I've had people read an article like this: http://www.8newsnow.com/story/18150329/i-team and take it to mean each of those missing people STAY missing despite what the article says. The numbers of people who have not been found are well into the 100s, maybe over 1000, but that's over time, not per year. The number added to the missing 411 lists filtered by their criteria each year is considerably smaller. MIB
Guest Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 MIB, All I truly wish to see happen is that innocent hikers and campers could be made aware of what they are hiking and camping with around them in the forests. People have a *right* to know. The Dogman I saw approached our vehicle, and followed our huge loud sounding car out into the road, and watched us drive away. That is not the behavior of a creature who is afraid of humans, cars, or anything else for that matter. Hubby and I would not have stood a chance if he had attacked our car. I'm thankful we did not stop to let Bucky out to relieve himself.
Incorrigible1 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Brilliant post, as always, MIB. Just an additional note. The attempt to classify people as "binary thinkers" (and I'm not talking about you, MIB) is just a way of slamming people who know the truth that you do: that few BF have the disposition to kill humans. The "truth" is not in the "middle". The truth is in that observation of yours -- and of many, many others -- that the overwhelming majority of BF individuals do not wish to hurt you, even though they're fully capable of grinding you into the finest of fine dust. If that were not the truth, the many, many people on here talking about their encounters would not be alive today to do all that talking. LT, correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you been one that's put forth the suggestion that bigfoot is a gentle creature of the forest? Certainly apologize if I've presented an incorrect position you've put forth. Still, we've a wealth of past postings....

I'm thankful we did not stop to let Bucky out to relieve himself. This is not about others' "rights", that's a nice smokescreen but this is really about you reacting to your fear. Why do you want the dogman to feel fear? Would that make you feel better? If so, why? What does that say about you? The fact of the matter is it did not attack your car. It either made a choice not to or it is not in it's nature to attack. This is exactly what I meant, you're trying to turn it into a monster to rationalize / justify your fear of it rather than deal with the fear in an psychologically appropriate way. It has the earmarks of PTSD and I think you should get help for that ... I'm absolutely not questioning your experience, I'm questioning how you are processing it ... or in this case, deliberately avoiding processing it. MIB 1
Guest Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 MIB - I am back, I am curious ... Let's stop with the pin the tail on the donkey stuff and get back to the subject topic please. We've gone from a topic to you diagnosing PTSD and questioning somebody on how they process fear. That my friend is beyond the pale .... I mean really?
Guest Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 MIB, I truly think that the creature's intention was somewhere in between, it first turned away, then it turned towards us, and started approaching the car. I saw at least an 800(+?) pound, and at least 8 feet tall, if not more, *monster*. These things exist, and I sincerely do not think that they are friendly. I had heard enough about BF not to be afraid of that species, but the DM scared the stew out of me. Tim's show, for the **first** time, introduced me to the violent side of the BF species. I brought my concerns here where people care about the topics, and share info about what is asked in the topic heading. These guys and gals, who have posted here, have been straight forward, and have done more to help me understand these species than anyone in my entire life ever has. I deeply appreciate everyone who has posted here. Somehow I need to convince my kids that there are *dangers* in the woods. Every time they go camping I hold my breath. Even my military son, who camps a lot, refuses to go armed with more than a knife to protect himself with. In other words, my children are all easy prey. Gumshoeye, my friend, you received all of my daily points today, and each one was well earned because you were so supportive. Thank you.
Guest Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 SweetSusiQ - All is fine. Keep posting and encourage others to share their thoughts and insights. You are a fine addition to the conversation. Off topic - Did they win or lose? I was up at 9:00 a.m. to watch a game. As usual not far into the first quarter I had to step away. I couldn't bare to see it. It reminds of rollercoaster rides and I did not enjoy them.
Guest Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 They won, but it was a struggle. I sorta' ended up yelling a wee bit, and jumping up and down a couple of times. It was great:) "My" bronco's pulled the win:) Payton Manning is just amazing, but I really miss Eric Decker being on the team. The Bronco's would not pay him enough when Decker achieved "Free Agency, and Decker joined the New York Jets. The Bronco's have 2 excellent receivers, but one has had so many concussions I fear for his future life after football:(.
LeafTalker Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) I think what MIB is saying is appropriate. Part of the reason any of us discusses anything here (or anywhere) is to sound out our own ideas, to see how other people react; to see if we can learn from other perspectives. And every perspective is valid, for the individual who holds that perspective. But the question for many of us is, how broadly does that perspective apply? We are trying to tease out the universal from the personal. It's fine to be afraid of things, if that's what you enjoy. Nobody would take that away from anybody. But it helps to be conscious of the choices we're making. It's a choice to be afraid, not a necessity. So, that's the piece of information that becomes more universal: that fear is a choice. Knowing that, being reminded of that, leaves us with more space to consider that we can choose some other feeling with respect to BF. Not to mention that the facts, the evidence -- the preponderance of it -- shows that most BF are not interested in killing people. Again, if most WERE, nobody here talking about their experiences would be able to speak. Or type. Or breathe. Thanks, MIB, Xion Comrade, and others for the reminder that we can choose fearlessness (another word for love) when we think about, talk about, and interact with BF. Guest Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Leaf Talker, I understand your point. My concern is for the moms and dads and the kids who have no clue what is sharing the woods with them. My feelings are totally related to the people who are innocently camping, and their child could end up missing and never to be seen again, the mom could be taken, who knows who will be taken, it could be you, or my kids. The story/event of a child being seen being carried off by a BF aka ape in the woods is horrendous and really happened. The child was never seen again. As a nurse, in a hospital, I know what to do, but with this issue I have no clue how to protect the public from something no one believes in except for a rare few people who have seen one. Please sign David Paulides petition to force the parks to release the names of all of the people who have gone missing in our forests. I AM NOT saying to kill any BF someone sees, just those who have gone rogue and started harvesting humans. I want to be clear on that. When a BF/DM starts harvesting human lives, it needs to be dealt with.
MIB Posted October 27, 2014 Moderator Posted October 27, 2014 Hug, SusiQ ... thanks for not taking my intentions wrong. You remind me of my very favorite aunt. Stress is not good for us, it has a short term survival value but when worry continues after the immediate danger leaves, it becomes harmful. I want you to be ok. I understand wanting to take care of your kids. No way to read that dogman's intention. There are several possibilities I can think of and surely some I can't. It could have been a bluff to hurry you along. It could have been stepping out to see more clearly and be sure you were leaving. It could have been triggered to pursue, like a cat, by you leaving. Guesses only. MIB
Guest Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 The Dogman did not run at our car, he just steadily approached us, looking at the car and me, I think, because I was looking at his body and face which *shocked* me because he had a snout. I cannot say we made eye contact for certain; I cannot swear to that, but I can tell you he had BLACK eyes, and I do not remember any *sclera* around the pupil, but that does not mean it was not there, I just do not remember seeing anything white in his eyes, only blackness. SweetSusiQ - All is fine. Keep posting and encourage others to share their thoughts and insights. You are a fine addition to the conversation. Off topic - Did they win or lose? I understand about roller coaster rides, and with football and professional teams it never stops until the clock stops. I fear our neighbors calling the police to check on us some nights when the game is close, because I am urging my "Broncos" forward rather enthusiastically. Yikes..
Guest Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Gumshoe, All of our personal messages to each other dealing with this topic suddenly disappeared:( I was sending you a message, and suddenly everything was just gone. I have no clue what occurred, nor why it happened.
jayjeti Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I don't know how many times I've had people read an article like this: http://www.8newsnow.com/story/18150329/i-team and take it to mean each of those missing people STAY missing despite what the article says. The article stated this: "Each year, hundreds of people are reported missing in national parks and forests. Most are eventually found, but there's a smaller category of cases that are never solved, including a few close to home." I'm not sure who these hypothetical people are that believes every person who goes missing in the parks STAY missing. The numbers of people who have not been found are well into the 100s, maybe over 1000, but that's over time, not per year. The number added to the missing 411 lists filtered by their criteria each year is considerably smaller. My understanding has always been that David Paulides compilation of clusters of missing never found was over periods of years, and I'm not sure who the hypothetical people are that thought the clusters he compiled in the 411 books happened all in one year. The article I quoted stated this: "Paulides has scoured small town newspaper archives and pestered federal agencies for records. He found so many cases of missing people that one planned book became two, filled with more than 400 cases of people who went into national parks but never came out." Maybe some people have made a bad assumption that 100's go missing each year that are never found. I haven't noticed people stating that. Usually I just hear people commenting on this subject say hundreds have gone missing in out parks and I don't hear the each year statement. Maybe you have. Its possible some people could jump to that conclusion. But something I've noticed is it hits some people's raw nerve to suggest that there is a possible danger of unprovoked attacks by sasquatches. Even though it is likely a very small minority that engage in that behavior, I believe it has happened and continues to happen. That seems to bother some people who desire a different view of these creatures.
