LeafTalker Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I think we have more help out there than we realize. From what you've been saying, I'd guess you'd have the same kind of backup, if you needed it. Wow, just looked up "Cane Corso", and they're amazing looking. They LOOK loyal and steadfast. Maybe they can protect the little dogs from becoming snacks!
Guest Maggie Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 If you read more into the Cane Corsos they are descended from the "Roman Dogs Of War". They were the personal dogs taken into war because though they were big, they weren't overly so and very agile. Neopolitan Mastiffs are descendants too. I fell in love with this breed completely. I certainly think he would protect the little dogs, lol, and maybe I should say TINY as a couple of my chis are full grown at two pounds. It's funny seeing them standing beside a 100 plus pound dog! Didn't experience anything at the family place on New Year's but I wasn't there a real long time to observe, just overnight.
LeafTalker Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I was trying to picture the Cane Corso next to a chihuahua, and it was a pretty fun thing to do. Bummer that it was so quiet on New Year's. A little diversion, a little excitement on that night of all nights would be perfect! I'm sure they'll be back, though. I got a house slap at 2:00 a.m. a couple days ago. I thought they were done doing that! Guess ya never know.
Guest Maggie Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Nice about the house slap! Seems like in the winter things are a little slower around here, though incidents CAN happen.
Guest Maggie Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Hi, haven't been on here in forever because of school and getting my book edited and ready to be published (no, not about Bigfoot, lol). I am on here today because after a drought of basically nothing happening, something happened to my oldest girl on Sunday. I was over at the family place for my birthday and was in the dining room. My oldest daughter was laying in the recliner, just looking out at the bluffs. All of a sudden she started yelling and carrying on and it took me a few minutes to get her to calm down enough to tell me what had happened. She said she was just laying there, resting, enjoying the beautiful scenery, when on top of the hill just across from the family place, something very large and human shaped but all dark (maybe she couldn't differentiate colors or clothes at that distance anyway, but she said it was all one color.), stood there a second or two and then walked back into the wood line. This is the daughter that likes this sort of thing LEAST, even though she has had a handful of encounters. (All of my kids have at one point or another so they never scoff. They know something if up even if they don't know exactly what!) She doesn't like discussing her encounters and I think she was horrified that she had yet another unwanted one. She calls my parents place "Creepy Valley" lol because of the plethora of weird, unexplained things that have happened out there, not just Bigfoot though that has been the most prevalent.I won't claim to know why this is, it's a different place for certain at times. You know what I got thinking? The majority of things that have happened at the family place were when there were more family members staying at the house. Not always but enough to be noticeable when looking back over incidents.Sunday, myself, parents, two of my daughters, daughter's ex boyfriend and my almost three year old grandson were there. It makes me wonder if something got curious, especially since most of the "kids" ( my children, nieces and nephews) are now grown and he is the first child to spend any amount of time here in quite a few years. Are they or are they not, attracted to children, for whatever reason? I have heard a lot of theories why but couldn't tell you which one is the truth. The most chilling one I have heard is that they are predatory towards human young. Whoa. And I have had a total brain blip about something that happened HERE a couple of weeks ago. I am officially attributing it to a human prowler but that's not a absolute given. I had come downstairs in the middle of the night to get something to drink when I caught movement by the kitchen window. It made me a little nervous but I told myself it was my imagination. Then the dogs started going off (they are inside dogs) I followed my Cane Corso into the area the big dogs usually sleep and saw slight movement going by one of THOSE windows.By this time I was ready to go back upstairs and I took my Cane Corso with me. But whatever it was wasn't done yet. As we were heading up the stairs I saw movement AGAIN by the screen door. The living room has black out curtains so nothing could look in those, but the front door has a window with a lighter curtain over it, then a porch, screen door etc. I went upstairs with the dog and didn't hear or see anything else but I sure didn't sleep either. People always say "call the police". Well you know what, I would if something was trying to get into the house, but before that, if they arrive and didn't see anything, all they would do is consider it a "nuisance call". Not calling unless there is proof, human or otherwise.
mesabe Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 (edited) Wow, Maggie! Well at least someone is having some activity. Maybe they will be more active out in Creepy Valley this summer. I can only imagine how she felt, being she doesn't want anything to do with them anyway. Regarding the curiosity towards children, that's something to always keep in mind when kids will be out there. Even for an ordinary cougar. Yea, I probly wouldn't have called the cops on that one, either, even tho it was creepy enough. You know that, by the time they got there, nothing would be found, and you might get a reputation down at the station. It's that lady calling again, about imaginary prowlers. Short straw has to go check it out. Anyway, cool, I hope stuff happens around here too PS. Congrats. on the book publishing.. Edited April 14, 2016 by mesabe
Guest Maggie Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Good to see you mesabe!! Yeah, admittedly at this point I am in Grandma protective mode about my grandson. I would imagine they are attracted by the high. pitched voices and frenetic activity. My oldest daughter is due with her first child and my second grandchild in October. I am mildly curious if there will be any more activity then too when she is out there with the baby. LOL you are spot on about how I feel about calling the law. If there is proof, sure, otherwise there is no way.
Guest Maggie Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Another thought. Just heard the guy behind the family place is getting chickens. When we had chickens there we had quite a few things happen so this might draw them (and other predators) in as well.
Guest Squatchologist Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Mesabe, i am in my house now. Anything weird happening at your location? I havent noticed anything unusual yet but also havent been out late at night at either
mesabe Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Hi folks, No activity around here at all. perfectly quiet. Quite the contrast from when stuff was happening all the time, and you just knew something was around. Plus we found tracks etc. We just bought a bunch of chickens, so who knows? but really I don't want that kind of activity. lol At work last May we saw a huge black bear in your area, he would come by once or twice a week. Surprisingly, he left the garbage alone?!? He did appear to be well fed from somewhere tho. No other activity, and since I quit smoking I won't be out on the deck as often as I used to
Guest Maggie Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Well, chickens will ensure SOME type of predator is around lol. One of the things that happened when we had chickens was what I think was a Sas imitating a rooster.
mesabe Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I'll keep an ear open for a baritone ****-a-doodle-doo. We used to raise rabbits back then, and I used to see signs of someone tampering with the cages. Like doors left unlatched, and other odd things moved araound. We didn't have any missing tho...
Guest Maggie Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I believe I have told this one before on the forum but my aunt down the road was raising rabbits. The hutches were HEAVY. One night they were all pulled out into the yard and most of the rabbits slaughtered. And then it came back and got the rest later. She generally has some sort of poultry too but I know they are kept in a building at night, where the rabbits were not. The hutches were all twisted up. To do all of this, I would think that it would have made a LOT of noise...but then they have been living there so long maybe they or neighbors knew NOT to go outside. Not if they didn't want to be twisted up along with the hutches...I suppose to put the dot at the end of this, a couple years ago something was getting into her feed in the barn. To do this they would have had to been able to open a door. Human? Or Sas. I don't know if any human would be eating and dribbling feed all over but take your pick. The DNR didn't know what wrecked the hutches as they crossed both cougar and bear off their list for whatever reason. I would have maybe thought a bear.
